Looking for tyre options
Stanley - March 23rd, 2012 at 11:12 AM

I have a set of 5 x 15'' rims and are looking for some tyre options for a late model swinger that is lowered but not crazy lowered. Any suggestions?
I've read 135 and 165 combo but am a bit reluctant to go the 135 plus doubt my rim width would allow anyway.

I've run 135s on 5.5in rims on numerous cars, never had an issue.

Anybody running 145r15 nankangs? Are they any good.

Also looking at 185/65/15 for rear

I've just purchased some new rims and tyres and i think from memory they are 165 x 50 x 15 front and 215 x 65 x 15 rear. Rim type can play a part as offsets can vary

I run 165/15 and 135/15 on my low 66 beetle, sometimes can be fun around corners or pulling up with the drums as they make a sqeal pulling up.

all in all sits well on standard beetle rims. maybe next time I would go 145...

Not many options for 145s.
Rodz are they nankangs

RODZ - April 4th, 2012 at 07:08 PM

yeah mate nankangs. when I bought the 135's they also had 145's in the same tyre. no price differance between the two I paid $90 a tyre fitted.

Yeh same for 145s. I was going for the 185 rear just for a bit more rubber on road.
What profile on your 165s

RODZ - April 4th, 2012 at 07:22 PM

I think 80's mate, next time around I will be going wider prob 185's as well, like the fat look at rear, plenty of clearance by the looks.

the height on mine is about 140mm at the side board runners.

OK thanks mate........nankangs it is then.

Cheers

145 nankang up front great tyre , good klm's , on rear tall (70) for high speed (cal look style) . I think nankangs don't have a 70 but a 65 tall would be fine .
My chose wider the better on rear , Rods has 205 /70's bridgestone's ( standed high on rear suspension )

Yeah i personally like the phat rear tyre look . I just went with 165 on front as i feel a bit more safer with a little bit more tyre on the ground as i'll be driving this as a daily. i also like when the rear chamber out as well.

even heaps of room with car lowered with short axles.
