I just received my copy of John Muir's "How to keep your VW alive" manual !!!! Yay !!!!
I don't think my workmates will understand why i have this huge smile on my face
I am happy for you. It's a fantastic book.
And the drawings are awesome.
does it tell you how to bring them back from the dead??
i think a few of my vw's could use that trick
Congrats!
The only book you need to have on teh bedside table!
:thumb:thumb:thumb
Been trying to get my wife to read it....
I keep telling her the best way to understand it is to read it thru like a novel the first time....
Like John says himself ... there are no short cuts, just long cuts.
So whats best then............?
keep vw alive
or
idiots guide
Ree
same book.
oh :jesus
I'm pleased this book appeals to the "next generation"!
Even an old fogey like me still refers to it & when I do I almost get dewey eyed with nostalgia for the days when most people who drove a (then)
old Kombi had long hair, a beard & wore Jesus sandals. :jesus
I've seen The next GEN lookin the same way.
Head to Byron !

:jesus:jesus
Now, ok, you say idiots guide to VW's......but are we talking 'serious' guide for REAL idiots........because I know NOTHING mechanical
whatso ever and I rather fancy learning........so here's the question......
Would it suit me????
*laughs* because I wanna learn.......just don't know if it's possible...*grins*

I have only 1 word to say...
"Nimbin"
Judy
Hey and what about our own Kol, hes a cutie Jesus if I ever saw one.
In fact we should all nominate Kol to be Jesus just like jens postal menace and the other ones a clown, Kol according to many posts is caring,
giving and very knowlegeable, why he even looks the part .
:jesus
Ree

hey kara, i got told it could even help me, so it must be good! (i'm not the best when it comes to the engine bay). so if it could help me
you'll be a pro in no time!
Apparently its for the real idiots Kara, Im one of those and Ive been recommended a copy.
Where bouts are you? we can study it and figure it out together.
Ree
yeahmate and when you two are finished, you can teach my sorry ass!
It's got some awesome drawings ! Now i am also hopeless with cars ! So i bought it with hopes of learning something before i buy my next VW !
I've read the first few pages and it's certainly entertaining ! The author states he wrote it assuming "you know nothing i.e that you
are an idiot mechanically.." so i hope he's lowered that bar right down to my level of mechanically zilch knowledge!!

I love the pics and some of the writing is OK as well, hehehehe
It's an excellent book to have. It sorta brings about a balance between the serious manuals and reality for us newbies, or mechanically
challenged:thumb
Yes Kara_11 its for you
..... and me.
Great book,i knew nothing about the mechanics of any car but when my beautiful splitty arrived & it wouldn't start(it had been lonely & neglected for god knows how long)I couldn't wait to get her running so after the advice from grey57(thanx again dean!)i bought the book read it, got out under her, afew new spark plugs, cleaned the points, charged the battery, drained the fuel & put some new fuel in & bam shes purring like a kitten!I'm one happy camper!!!!!
I love the pic on the inside back cover of the author with a bird on his shoulder!
What the h*ll is all that about????
Wacky book!
Steve
Well it WAS first published in '69, the good old hippy, back to nature days

Says it all
Well he was probably stoned most of the time he wrote the book.
I love it:kiss

:sandrine

Judy
Amazon have it.
Thechnical bookshop in melbourne have it (or can get it in)
The autobook place in WA have it (can't remember the name though)
Love it just for entertainment value
I love the "How to buy a Volkswagen" section.
And I quote... "Get away from the car and the owner or salesman to let your mind and feelings go over the car and the idea of the car. What has
its Karma been? Can you live with the car? Walk around and find a quiet place, assume the good old Lotus and let the car be the thing"
Anyone for a spliff??
