I asked a question regarding ADR aproval for some after market seats I found on the net, this is the answer I received, dosn't sound correct to me,
what do others think as I have seen after market seats with ADR certification......................................
I have confirmed with departments of transport compliance section the point?s raised previously by some customers in relation to ADR (Australian
Design Rules) compliance of the car seats we supply.
I have been advised as follows:
If seats are provided as part of a car then the whole car (and the seats as part thereof) will need to be certified
If seats are provided as a standalone part no certification is required
There is no process for certification of car seats and there is no official certificate that can be provided for ADR compliance of the car seats.
so is the first one a kit car??
second one seats from auto barn after market seat/ baby seat??
Im not too sure how it works either, My understanding is if you dont modify the rails then no need for engineering and the other side of it is you can
only use ADR aprooved seats or they legal all together. I Have SAAS Sports ADR approved seats (will be) Mounted on stock vw rails. Legal seats and no
structual mod to car = Legal (im pretty sure)
From Dylan
but you modified the way the seat is mounted to the seat base so therefore it needs to be engineered so not legal.
if you used a seat that clips on to the stock rails without any modifications to ether the seat or rails then its legal.
if you modify the seat or rails its not legal unless approved by an engineer.
I'm aware of the need to have engineers approval for any modification to the way the seat is anchored to the vehicle what I was enquiring about in
regards to the seat was if it is ADR approval, surely if the seat does not require ADR approval then you could use a wooden crate for a seat or an
upholstered dining chair as long as it is anchored correctly
