Hi everyone......
Ok, I'm in the middle of a major dilemma.....(well major by my terms!!)
I went and saw a bug yesterday (feel in love with it of course....) And I just don't know if I'm going to be ripped of by it.....
It's a 1974, basically restored (the mechanic said it's got all new rubbers and chroming work, engines fabulous......basically new paint
etc....cd player......dammit it sounds so good when I talk about it!!!)
He said it's worth over 10,000, he'll sell it 7,000.......(he wants a $2,000 deposit!?!?! :o ) but I just don't know if I could get
more for my money or if I would be getting ripped of etc.....or I should take it and run.....I didn't want to spend over 6, but I probably
won't get better....
you guys know whats out there.....do you think I should go for it?????
Thank you heaps......

without cing it its hard to say. just have to c. is it a simple bodgy good looker. or was it a full resto (any shots of the resto being done?) etc

Pics would help, but it is really in the eye of the individual. People have SIX senses, not 5. INTUITION. If you feel you could do better, then... maybe you can?
Not sure where you are, or your VW experience??
If you don't know VW's all that well and considering the money your outlaying, get some advice from a trusted local VW shop.
As you say it sounds good from the specs, just make sure it is all it's made out to be.
If it's a genuine full resto, that is a fair price in my book.

Kara, not sure what city you are in, but my advise to anyone looking at buying an aircooled VW for the first time would be to join a local club,
before you part with hard earned on a car.
Talking to club members can help you find a suitable car and narrow down to the recomended repairers, that members are using to keep their cars on the
road.
Also get along to club events were you can have a real close look at enthusiasts cars and basically see what a good one is sposed to look and sound
like.
Good luck
kara ur brissy based by or other post i assume. Some along to the action day, lots of nice cars and their owners will be able to tell you about how much, what to look for etc (like grey said)
Ther is a car yard with a couple of nice looking beetles on Wynnum rd about half way out on the rhs (on way out) both about 4k one is a earlier
60's, the other a later one.
Dont buy the first one you see. Look at a few until you get the kool karma feeling!
Get someone who has an idea to pick it apart for you, it will be worth it in the longer run.
kkk
Hi Kara
You should join a club, and then I am sure one or two of the more experianced members would be more than happy to go with you to any potential
purchase! If you are prepared to spend that much money! you really need to make sure you are not getting ripped off!
You don't have to own a VW to join a club. This is what being a member is all about, having knowlageable people who can help you out.
It's like the old saying! all good things come to those who wait! even if you don't want to join a club, I am certain someone from here
will go with you.
Rob......
Hi guys,
Thanks, I'm definatly thinking joining a club is the way to go......plus, sounds like fun...
Yeah, I think I'm better off leaving it.....it's just soooo nice.....and I'm afraid I won't find another one like it......in such
'supposed' good condition.......
Thanks again.......

Hi Kara
I think you should be able to get a very good 70's Beetle for around $6000, I havent seen the one your talking about, so I cant say if it is
worth it or not! but if you have your heart set on this one, ask for someone from here to go with you, and get them to sus it out!
Rob......
If you email me the mechanics name and place of work I maybe able to help you out.
If you are real keen I suggest you put a post up on here asking for someone in Brissy to check it out for you. If I was in Australia then I would
happily do it. If you get no interest of teh Forum I can email you some of teh people I know who will happily check it out for you.
If teh Mechanic is selling it for $7000 then it is only work $7000. I don't care if he has spent $100 000. A bug is only worth what you pay, you
either get a good deal or a bad deal.
In Brissy at $7000 it will not be going anywhere quickly.
hey kara, just get someone to go with you from the forum. you could put up a post asking someone, or if you feel you can get better, just put up a
post letting people know you want one. everyone on the forum is always willing to help so just ask. good luck dude
Check this one out "

Come down the action day in september. there will be the vwdcq ppl and also ppl from other clubs.
Thanks guys....
I think I will definatly be taking your advice.....I was really hooked on this one.....but I figured I'd wait and see what else was out
there.....I rung him and told him I wasn't gonna pay it.....he then dropped the price to $6,500 :o
But after having some chat with people I figured I'd wait a little longer, and maybe it'll still be there when I'm ready to seriously
go for it.....still a little scared of going and getting one......excited, but scared!!!
Well, again, thanks HEAPS for the advice, and I'm thinking I might rock up to the action day.....don't suppose I could grab some details of
someone could I????
THANKS.....

Thanks......
No worries.
I haven't been before or would shed more light on the day.
Still only two weeks then will see.....
Don't miss it definately a great VW day out!
Rob....
Tis true, finding your perfect VW can take many many views... it took me aaaaages. take a look in the trading post as well, and dont be afraid to
travel to look at one that sounds good. you can get some great bugs far from home.
but it is a good idea to go to the bug show, not only may you find something for sale that makes your heart flutter with pure delight, but if you dont
then you meet some cool people who can tell you and help you with where to find one.
KoolKarmaKombi and kara as well... being the beetle observer that i am, i was driving down wynnum rd and stopped to have a look at the 4 beetles on
display at the car yard. They were in ok condition. the interiors on all of them looked like they needed some real attention, and one was missing the
drivers side door interior panel. im not sure that i would spend 5k on them based on the exterior/interior (thats what they wanted) would have been
nice to have a look in the engine bay tho.
Good luck and see you on the 14th!
