I currently work for QLD Health where there is a no smoking policy anywhere in or on the premises. If staff or patients want to smoke they have to go to smoke on the foot path. Recently there has been an influx of people who have these Electric Cigarettes which look and act like cigaretts and give the user a hit of nicotine. But as they are not really smoking it is assumed that it is ok to use even indoors. This is causing so much drama for those who dont smoke and for those who have to walk off the premises to have one. It seem that Technology is going faster than the Law. Has anyone had any dealings with them and what is your view ?

Ryanair sells them on some flights. I figure since smoking is illegal on international flights they're probably fine. No smoke = no passive smoking which is the reason we can't smoke indoors. Otherwise nicotine gum and patches would also be an outdoor activity :-)

As far as I know they are just a direct hit nicotine device, they do not contaminate the air in any way. So there should be no problem consuming them anywhere.
Unless they don;t subscribe to the corporate image of your profession.
Might be frounded upon for a brain surgeon to be sucking back an electric cigarette whilst preforming labotomies.

As an asthmatic as long as there is no second hand smoke for me to choke on, then thats awesome!

I'd sit and have a meal in a cafe next to an electric smoker without any troubles at all

I spose being pure nicotine as opposed to smoke, it would be healthier for them too without the tar and charcoal going into the lungs.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy!

I think we all agree it is better than really smoking for the smoker and the non smoker next to them. I just find it hard to get used to seeing someone using one in doors. It may be a good way to save money and time if used in a working enviroment instead of going out for a 10 min smoke break every hr to. So has anyone on here used one ? If so was it a good substitute ?

I would hate to be working in a psych unit and have to explain that I have to take your smokes off you and give you this instead.

I used one once, but I am a non-smoker, I was just intrigued.

Quite clever though. It had a little battery inside which was rechargeable via USB. The action of you inhaling brought the battery onto a contact causing the oil (I think it was an oil) to burn.

There was "smoke" exhaled but apparently it was just steam or something harmless. It even had a red LED on the end.

Great idea to help quit. This one was a couple bucks off ebay. But I can't find it anymore.

i had a old dude at work smoking them,he loved his gadgets..

i think its condensation or steam or something like that which is what they are inhaling instead of smoke...isnt this bad for your lungs "moisture" ? dunno.....if it stops people throwing butts on the ground then hell yeah.

but smoking in a plane or resteraunts etc, nah they can still suck it up and wait i think and go for a walk....
