The 24-Hours of Nurburgring was held on 19-20 May at the famous German circuit. It was the 40th time the race has been run. It is for GT production cars. This year there were 169 starters and over 800 drivers, spread over 20 classes. Around 290,000 spectators watched the event.

Audi won the event for the first time - the R8 LMS Ultras (Audi Sport Team Phoenix and Mamerow Racing) finished 1-2. The winning Audi completed 155 laps of the famous 24.4 km North Loop (Nordschliefe) in 24 hours, at an average of 163.870 km/h.

All the top 10 cars were in the SP9 G class. There were 111 cars that successfully completed the 24 hours. Here are the other class winners, in descending order:

A VW Scirocco 24 (natural gas) also finished 4th in the SP3T category, 126 laps and 61st overall, while another Scirocco finished 114 laps (87th). One other Scirocco, and another Golf 3 16V, retired.

I suppose Australians are more interested in taxi racing!
