Administrivia: Updates and backup tonight

What? Backups and security patches
When? Midnight Saturday 16 June 2012
How long? About an hour

More details:

There's a pretty important security update to apply to the server. Honestly, it's not that critical to us as I have the database server listening locally, so it's unexploitable remotely, and if you've broken into the machine, I have bigger problems than a trivially exploitable MySQL issue. However, I like to keep on top of these things.

Patches for tonight:

  • MySQL Server and client - http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/usn-1467-1/ 
  • APT - http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/usn-1477-1/ 

    As it changes our database server and client libraries, a backup will occur just before the patch.

    It's about to start. Will take around an hour all up. Service will resume automatically, and be slow for about another 10-20 minutes after you can get back on here (other backups need to be taken, too!).
