Best Spot to Find Original Paint?
sander288 - June 20th, 2012 at 03:29 PM

Hey All,

Where is the best spot to find original paint on a beetle?

Up until recently I thought the bug used to be Ruby Red;but since I've removed the Vin plate it's beige underneath, would this be accurate?

It explains the red interior if it is correct as I always thought red on red was different..

Cheers

Shaun

I swear almost every beetle out there gets painted red at some point in it's life

Savannah Beige was a pretty common colour on 67s

You should be able to find traces of the original colour in some of the hard to get places like above the dash up under the windscreen scuttle and behind the rear door panels and possibly even under the rear seat

behind the front shock towers or under the compliance plate.... ;)

Yes,
under the tail lamps, blinkers, and number plate lamps have usually been painted at some time...

metal heater tubes under the rear seat??

under the compliance plate sounds good....

the door hinge that sits inside the cavity??
the plastic caps are usually taken out to paint so the hinge bolts have probably been painted too...
but maybe the back of the hinges??

I don't know of anyone who would take the compliance plate off to paint a car....

but there probably is... lol

I did. Both times. Why would you half paint a car?
