So if anyone is interested I have done a price analysis for sound deadeners available in Oz.
Most are sold thro Ebay except for Resomat that is sold direct.
So the prices are for the largest bulk pack each vendor sells but unlike Dynamat most of the others aren't that much cheaper per square metre from
the smaller sizes each vendor sells.
Starting at lowest we have
Solavis $49.71
dBKill $51.03
Car Builders $55.56
Resomat $56.00
Sound Deadener $57.14
Dynamat $69.76
As you can plainly see the Dynamat is $12 more expensive than the second most expensive and $20 more expensive than the cheapest and this is per metre
squared pricings.
If you all wish to continue using this over priced American crap then go ahead but if you do some research you'll see that most of this stuff does as
good a job as Dynamat and yet are Aussie made. So 4 good reasons to buy Oz are just as good a quality, does the same job, saves you money and keeps
the money in Oz.
I'm all for keeping money in Australia.
Thanks for doing the research for us.
Good to know what other brands are out there.
There is also Honey if you want to go really cheap...

Why say this , "If you all wish to continue using this over priced American crap then go ahead" what's your problem with Dynamat? have you used it? or don't you like it because it's expensive? just wondering.

Sq mtr rate maybe correct but what about weight per mtr? The other stuff maybe half as thick so the value soon decreases. My2c

I have used Dynamat in my Kombi s/c and I am very happy with the results, I used another product in my Oval (sorry not sure of brand) and it did not stick very well at all. I think I'll stick with using the better quality product,my 2 cents worth..cheers Dino
I didn't know about the aussie ones..
Main reason I steered clear of dynamat is the weight...
I do realise it does an excellent job..
in a 1200 kombi... lot of extra weight to carry around.. lol

In all fairness unless you have tried all of the brands you research then it is not a realistic piece of research - give Choice magazine a call at least they test their products before bagging them out!
I used Car Builders in my '83 Suzuki Hatch, cant compare the difference of sound between this and any other, but it was far cheaper, easy to apply and has made my hatch far quieter. So I'm happy with the outcome

remember cost effectiveness is in the proper use of the material too.
You don't have to cover an entire panel to get the 'resonance dampening' effect.
Covering the entire panel doesn't make it any better, it becomes useless extra weight and initial cost when you exceed the usual recommended 25%
required covering.
Here's my sound deadener before/after test on my baja using generic butyl matting (butyl matting, being what dynamat is)
Before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9bs0_5zJ5U&list=UURz8PB7qfZOLeCCA0YCP-PQ&...
After: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGo8ksojz5I&list=UURz8PB7qfZOLeCCA0YCP-PQ&...
Guy in the USA did his own independant testing and from 6 years of testing has finally started to manufacture his own reasonably priced sound
deadening and absorbing materials. His findings showed that Dynamat was pretty run of the mill compared to what was around back then. Heck if we could
buy his stuff over it and it works like he says it does then the cost slays Dynamat as well as most other good brand names.
I've been around cars long enough and in other parts of the world to know that Dynamat sells a majority of it's product from popularity stakes IMO
and have tried Brown Bread, Noisekiller, AT and Dyna-kak.
For everyday motoring needs most of the products I looked at will do a good enough job that most ears wouldn't know the difference. Even in
Sound-offs Dynamat has been beaten by AT and Brown Bread in the past.
I always do my research before opening my mouth and it's not just weight but it's acoustic dampening factor that is dependant on not just weight but
the products composition as these products turn vibrational energy into heat and the better they do this the more dB are absorbed. Not all these
products give acoustic or dB losses to back up their claims. If you look at Solavis it has a greater acoustic loss factor than Dynamat extreme at 20
and 30 degrees C and most the rest of the temp range too.
So, Yes, I have a problem with anything that seems to sell by popularity but at the end of the day I am just trying to open peoples eyes and not just
believe the crap some sales person tells them.
The stuff is more than likely made in China but so long as it's made to the specs of the Aussie company then buy from the company that has done it's
own research and not jump on the Dynamat/Yankie bandwagon

I have usd this after researching all brands, they have an agent in Singapore and including shipping it still worked out cheaper than the others and
in tests its better than Dynamat

I think it was good info seeing I had never ever heard of any of them apart from dynamat..
and a price comparision... Good..
not saying it has to be exactly correct.
but most items regardless, can be found at different prices..
but at least a comparision...
and all this info was found and written on here..
Good Job..

There was a site about 3 years ago that compaired all the different types and this came out as exactly the same as Dynamat for noise reduction, the
things it beat it on was it was cheaper and it had a better adhesion for sticking to roofs(didnt fall down as quick).
I have searched for that site and i cannot find it again, I ordered a roll from them 2 years ago and it was posted from their agent in Singapore and
it still worked out a hell of a lot cheaper than the others.
all your answers: sounddeadenershowdown.com
remember, all butyl matting is a resonance damper, not a sound deadener.
That was the original site but 3 years ago they were recommending RAAMat, now hes selling his own stuff so its not really a showdown anymore
SO RAAMAX was as good as dynamat aye. Good thing to know as they don't list the loss factor on their website. Think I may give this stuff a go then
if your sure it gave the same results
Shame he closed down the original site so he can sell his own stuff now. It was the only independant test done of these materials.
And Chris, I think you'll find the deadener is a dampener. Bitumen and Butyl work in a similar fashion when closely adhered to body panels. All they
do is absorb the sound frequencies and turn them into heat. If you don't adhere them to the panel properly then it don't work so well.
Glad peps have found this helpful tho. Who says one man can't change the world Next is to get rid of Gillard and Abbott

I found RAAMat worked, now I bought my roll over 2 years ago from them and I dont know what their prices are like now.
If you google raamat v dynamat you will see a number of people have found it does the same job just cheaper.
The reason lots of shops stock Dynamat is the normal buyers have only heard of dynamat and dont know there are alternatives , the sellers also only
stock that because they are making a tidy profit from it?
Also as you dont know me from Adam its always best to do some research and confirm or deny any recommendations.
