Administrivia: Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8 support ended

Hi there,

Update - for those of you using IE 6, 7, and 8, you will now see a "You are using an outdated browser" appear in the header. If you're using Windows XP, upgrade to IE 9 or a better browser. If you're using Windows 7, upgrade to IE 10. Windows 8 already has IE 10.

How to upgrade:

  • IE 9 - http://www.beautyoftheweb.com/Experience#/download
  • Chrome (Best) - https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/
  • Firefox (pretty good if a memory hog) - http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
  • Safari - use Apple Update on Macs, or http://www.apple.com/safari/download/  for PCs

If you use another browser, I'm not going to stop you, but I only test the list above.

Lastly, if you're still using XP, you have approximately 11 months to upgrade to something a bit more modern before Microsoft pulls the pin on all XP support. It's been out there for 12 years. Please work out what you're going to do before the flow of security patches stops. XP is already 20 times more likely to fall to malicious software than Windows 7 with IE 10.

    thanks,
    Andrew

Just to make sure there's no confusion, here's what the new banner for IE 6 users looks like.

If you see this banner, you are using IE 6, and you should upgrade to one of the supported browsers.

    thanks,
    Andrew
