oil cooler question
57 Cal look - July 21st, 2012 at 07:36 PM

Hi guys,

I want to put a oil cooler and thermo fan kit above the gearbox, the motor is set up for full flow oil, before anybody tells me the obvious.

what i want to know is what size ( how many rows) can the oil cooler be in that area ... i see lots of kits on ebay for sale, so i just want to make sure i dont buy something too big.

is a 30 row to big ? , is a 10 row to small ?

cheers.

I have just fitted this cooler with a fan and thermo switch,i also used a oil thermostat in line to the cooler, it is a big as i can get into the space, i used some spacers between the floor and the cooler and mounted the thermostat on the left above the gearbox and run all stainless lines and AN fittings. it is never to big if you run a thermostat

Hi

Best place for an oil cooler is in front of the car.

On my sons bug I fitted a big cooler that was on my Wasserboxer bug, its probably about 25 rows in the front of the car, no cooler in the shroud and it always sits just about the thermostat opening temp no matter what I do. It is often driven in Sydney peak hour traffic without overheating.

But if you must have it above the transmission as vwo60 said go big.
