Hi everyone,
The left hand side window has just fallen completely inside the door and wont wind back up. Any tips or suggestions on how i might be able to fix this
myself?
As silly as this sounds, I'm learning!
Regards, Emma
Sounds like the metal bracket on the bottom of the glass that bolts to the regulator has failed.
The water runs down the glass and rusts the metal away. Happens all the time.
Remove the window winder handle and other door stuff, then the door trim.
Look inside and see whats not happening.
Not a job i would recommend for novices.
If its an old beetle, then there is a round nob that goes in a u shaped channel. It can pop out and let the glass fall.
I once blame the locals for knocking off my passengers window for several months (even put lost posters up in the local supermarket) only to find it
intact inside the door....

From one novice to another, be extra careful when removing the door trim - I broke the wooden/plywood/very-thick-card? board pulling it out because
the plugs hadn't come out in quite a while.
If Lucky Phil is right, you'll probably need some replacement parts, so track down a VW mechanic to help you out and knock off 2 birds with one
stone. I recently went to Klaack Motors in Fairfield when my door handle was shot and he practically rebuilt it from the inside out, even replacing
the tiny (2mm) springs and resized the pins inside the tumbler. Amazing attention to detail and pride in his work... Whooo I rambled. Basically
though, whoever you go to, ask them to let you look over their shoulder and lend an extra pair of hands if need be, so you can learn about your bug
and know what to do for next time!
Good luck Emma.
Thanks everyone for the great responses. As much as I would love to attempt this myself, I'm to scared of damaging the door trim. I think i have come
to the decision to let my VW mechanic handle this one and patbot, thats a great idea for learning more about my car. Haha Newt that's classic.. easy
mistake to make I suppose, if I hadn't seen my window disappear before my eyes I probably would have been just as confused! I greatly appreciate the
feedback!
