DIY Soda Blaster
TorxKiwi - September 1st, 2012 at 08:02 PM

I had a bit of time spare today and thought I'd have a crack at one of the DIY Soda Blasters that are on YouTube ....

http://youtu.be/aQrU06w7LHY

Total cost less than $20 + about half a $3.00 box of baking soda and this carb .....

ended up looking like this ......

Just need to run a rebuild kit through it and job done. Took about half an hour, looked a bit like casper the ghost and the back yard had a decent dusting, but all in all far more painless than hours of scrubbing and pissing around.

Better with a bit of a breeze ..... heading towards the neighbour that you don't like much if you've got one. Passing the baking soda through a sieve first works better also.

Super cheap have got one on sale at the moment, but I was just being a tight arse. The only think I purchased was the baking soda the rest I had in the shed.

That's fantastic. Trying to do that by hand and get that kind of finish would take hours. Well done

I've got a DIY sand blaster that I have used for cleaning up mag wheels, it has 3 different size nozzels and does a great job, only drawback is you need realy dry sand or it won't draw it up the hose I've been told that using sand is damned dangerouse though but I do as these fellas do and keep up-wind, and it realy gobbles up the air (I only have a small tank on my compressor) this looks the go for small parts though and probably won't user as much air, I've never tried the soda, that looks the go. :tu::tu:

seriously don't sandblast without propper breathing gear. it's seriously dangerous.

i'll have to have a better look at this soda blasting set up.

This looks like it would also work quiet well, and from pricing it out, would only cost about 70 - 80 bucks to make.

dose a nice job of keeping the mess in and also recycling the soda, not to mention removing the likly hood of breathing the stuff in while working
