Hi Donn a lot of years ago while i was an apprentice we used to do this fan belt fit when we bench tested engines, the belt was fitted & adjusted
then removed, the fuel and battery connected,a rope around the crank pulley and started it just like the old Victa mower, the belt was fitted onto the
generator pulley and slipped onto the crank pulley with a big screwdriver while the engine was running ( OH&S said you stood well clear and only
just flipped the belt on) later on we had 1/2 an N transmission to cut the dangerous part of the action. The little motors used to run for an hour or
so prior to sending them back to the other workshops.
