VW Mexico door hinges and aftermarket hinge pin quality
psimitar - September 25th, 2012 at 10:22 PM

Not sure if this is the right area for this but I've just purchased some genuine VW Mexico Beetle door hinges and aftermarket threaded and oversized hinge pins.

COMPLETE CRAP ALL OF IT!!!!!!!!!!

Here's some pictures of the offending parts and the explanation of their shitness to follow

1st pic is upper hinge showing the outer part of the hinge sits 1mm higher than the inner part due to shite machining. Also, the hinge has as much play in it as the worn hinge it's replacing.
2nd shows that the 8.2mm oversized pin is way shorter than a standard pin
3rd, 4th and 5th are of the lower hinge and shows that the hinge pin hasn't been drilled true to the rotating axis of the hinge so that the hinge opens on an angle.

Now means I have to get a machine shop to machine the pin hole true and probably re-bush it.

Oh and the aftermarket hinge pins. Well the threaded 8mm measures 7.9mm which is 0.05mm less than the new pin pressed from the new hinge. So only the knurled end at 8.1mm will bite into the hinges pin hole.

The only part I bought that's any good is the Wolfsburg West 8.1mm threaded hinge pin. This measures at 8.14mm so good on Wolfsburg West :)

Be warned people of what you're buying these days ;)
