Public opinion on Dubs by the Pub Location ( Decision made )
OZ Towdster - November 11th, 2012 at 09:55 AM

Hi all ,
Am looking for peoples opinions on where people really want Dubs by the Pub to be .
Last years location ( the old Humble pie carpark ) has been sold and was always a hassle with not having trucks parking there overnight and as we all know , bugger all shade .
To fill you in on why we originally left the Ettamogah , it was due to at that time the new owners of Ettamogah wanting $1000.00 to use the car park which the club couldn't afford .
By 2011 the event had been at The Humble Pie for 2 years and the Ettamogah was chasing us to come back minus the $1000 car park fee , but we have resisted this to now due to the resrticted car parking spaces .
So here's the deal , do people want it back at the Ettamogah or somewhere new .
The new venue the club currently has been looking at is the Abbey on Torvill Point Rd of Bribie isl rd . The venue is not licenced , all parking is on grass and acces for low cars is unknown plus alot of other unknowns
From what i hear and asking around at other events i think you all would like to see it back at the Ettamogah as next years event will be the 20th anniversry and it's original event home .
So what do people want

RODZ - November 11th, 2012 at 10:14 AM

Im keen on where ever it may be held as long as its held.

Would be nice to see it back at the ettamogah, as long as its a place that supports the event and your club.(I think the $1000 dollar fee that they tried to impose prevously is disgusting for something that draws a lot of people and public)

again great work on a great club event and great to see you also envolving the vw community and not just a club decision.

ettamogah. shaded area for off roaders and swappers. more food choices at a faster pace, better atmosphere, easy off the highway access.

ETTA PUB no brainer
honestly if it can be taken back there why haven't they got it together and sorted this?
this has been an ongoing saga for ages now
Abbey museum is a great place, i have been there, but not a great venue for this type of event IMO as it is too far from public view :spin:
Etta has it all,
parking, food, entertainment, shade and cold beer
not to mention the passing public who no doubt stop n check out the rides all assembled
it also has a great off ramp for miles of rides exciting the highway convoy
I hope they wake up to themselves
good luck andrew

Even tho i live a stones throw from the Abbey take it back to the Ettamogah!! this is one show i looked forward to and always have. the problem with the fish was the set out and lack of shade. If you guys plan the set up i really think you could make the Dubs by the Pub the show it use to be! Maybe get an idea of numbers your expecting (always add some more) and plan the show n shine around that. Also get a commitment from the venue to make sure they have the carpark totally empty for the day as they do get trucks parking up as well for the weekend.
Don't get me wrong Andrew i'm not telling you what or how to do things just really would love to see you guys bring this show back to the number 1 show in Qld!

Ettamogah! Nuf said:)

Ettamogah = Heart beat of VW QLD.

lou0060 - November 11th, 2012 at 06:32 PM

I posted how happy I was it was going to be at the abbey under I think the VWMA thread as I had seen the add for the show in the last mag. I loved the Etta pub show but quite frankly stopped going in my ghia as there was just no parking space available after all the kombis had piled in. Don't get me wrong I love Kombi's as well but my feelings were that the Etta show had dropped off towards the end because people couldn't get parking. I think if you want this show to grow and get back to Qld no1 VW show then you need the right venue and in my opinion Etta is too small to cater for our growing hobby..

as far as the Abbey goes, who cares if it's not licensed, we're not going there to drink (much anyway) and if you don't know how the lowered cars will go then some research and testing is in order. Parking on grass is okay, works at many other shows and you want a place with shade, bloody hot in Feb, and also lots of room to grow and entice people to come along. Also it get the convey of the freeway as this had become a bit of a drama due to congestion on the off ramps etc. Also as far a food goes there are plenty of food vans that would put their hands up for a vw show with 200 cars there.....

hope I was constructive.....

Other option is to do a SWOT analysis on it and go with the best result.... (too technical?, sorry)

jamiesc - November 11th, 2012 at 06:39 PM

what about if it was at the alex hills hotel it has a big car park grass for the swap meet and i think it may have a playground for the children and its on a main road

h - November 11th, 2012 at 07:07 PM

inight of the updated info in first thread
I've heard Chinese whispers that etta pub want us back?

I appreciate others views where the show to be on grass however as it often rains during the event days wet grass and cars do not mix as past shows have highlighted this over the years

hopefully blb peeps will be noting what is going on in the general vw public (punters) and their views

as it is the 20th year Annervirsary of the original 'love your dub cruise' at etta pub it seems fitting to try and bring the event back home :)

Very good points.

I think two of the most important factors is space and shade as this killed the fish when other dubs had to park down the back and on the asphalt was a sorcher. As lou0060 is refering to, is the show to big for the Pub now? Could possibly be as the last Pub (Etta) show was packed and flat out fitting all the dubs., and the scene has growen a heap more.
Whichever way it goes, i think if you can find a place, plan and fit the expecting amount of dubs together and have some shade we'll be there.
If it is at the abbey are you guys planing on having say like food vans and coffe vans at the show?

Ettamogah Pub without a doubt

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - November 11th, 2012 at 08:51 PM

Go back to the pub and organise the parking a little better. Getting all the models in the one area like it used was good and made judging easier and you didnt miss a potential winner due to parking in the wrong area away in the boonies. Maybe have a rule that you car has to be parked in the alotted area for a set amount of time eg 10am -1pm. If you cant do that then you cant park in there. Seen it on previous years when you are the last few cars in the convoy and have to park away from everyone else due to room only to walk in and find spare spots from those who literally park there for half and hour and leave.

dragsters for life - November 12th, 2012 at 05:02 PM

why go back when they tried to charge, they should of had more respect, change venues could be for the better but what would i know.....im a southerner

vwo60 - November 12th, 2012 at 06:32 PM

I like it at the Ettamogah pub, as stated previously you would have to control the parking and keep the people out of the area that are not in the show so there is enough room,

blue vizion - November 12th, 2012 at 08:17 PM

I live near the pub. Over the past couple of years the visitors to Aussie World have increased quite a bit. I doubt if the event will fit in the car park anymore.

I'm with Lou, space, grass and shade is the go. As long as the access is good for low cars.

frog - November 12th, 2012 at 09:45 PM

How about where they have farm fantastic across the hiway?
Not enough room at the Pub to get a proper spread, most people get the shits.
How good would it be to have a big weekend show one day like in the UK or the US with bands and camping plus having 2 days to check out cars and talk crap, now I'm dreaming, spose we have Valla.
I too like the Abbey feild idea.

matberry - November 12th, 2012 at 10:18 PM

I prefer the Ettamogga for a venue, but I'm biased since the first Love Ya Bug Cruise was run by Flat Four Qld back in the day.
Interesting to hear some of the pro's and cons of the Etta and new ideas like frogs....ah the possibilities, there's room for more events in Qld, the Milkshake run was proof of that, maybe have both, Etta and a new venue.

Now your talking frog! that would be a great spot for something like that...they also have a offroad track as well.
But i think the place is sold as Farm Fantasic is moving further down old toorbul road, think all that area is turning into Industrial estate.
Your on the right track tho, and like Mat said there's room for more events.

vw54 - November 13th, 2012 at 07:30 AM

Large flat area with shade would be great

bajachris88 - November 13th, 2012 at 07:53 AM

haha, how about the convention centre in brisbane city

Would need a pretty elaborate fat wallet sponsor.

matberry - November 13th, 2012 at 11:18 AM

Well looks like it's officially at the Abbey. Just seen the flyer on Facebook.

Personally I think the blb's are clutching at something that it isn't
"BLB presents Dubs By The Pub at The Abbey".

If there's no pub, why keep calling it that? It started as a cruise (Love Ya Bug Cruise as it's near Vallentine's day) and that's what makes it different, so go back to the og name??? Just looks a bit obvious that they're not too sure which way to go.

rant over ;)

68BUS - November 13th, 2012 at 12:39 PM

Or change it up again.
The holier than though cruise to the abby.
(Holier referring to the rust holes that come on the cruise with us!)

OZ Towdster - November 13th, 2012 at 12:57 PM

Matt ,
I don't even know who Joanna is let alone whether she's in the BLB club , so as i said in my first post the location for the event will be confirmed on the last wed of Nov when the club has it's next full meeting and we haved weighed up all our options including the above public opinions .
As for the few flyers that were handed out at Warwick etc , the place & start time of the cruise will not change and the event name kept so as people recognised the event , who knows that could change come the 28th Nov .
Please keep all opinions comming though as the show is nothing without you people being there and being happy

Nickster - November 13th, 2012 at 07:27 PM

You gotta ask why you want to have the show - you obviously want lots of loverly VW vehicles and lots of people to say 'what loverly VW vehicles', so you need space to accomodate said cars and people. It's going to be in the middle of the glorious QLD summer so shaded areas are a must have, so too facilities (toilets, drinks, eats etc). Wrap it all up with some good organisation and wahey.... what a show, can't wait to go :)

It's also clear that this scene is thriving, and as it's the 20th anniversary you're sure to get a bumper turn out, so it needs to be big enough to cope.

If it's at the Ettamogah Pub, at least it can legitimately remain the Dubs by the Pub show, but realistically how many cars and people can it accomodate, especially with Aussie World and all the normal punters / tourists going to the pub? It might look great to have a carpark chock full of cars but if visitors have nowhere to park, they're gonna turn around with a heavy heart and head home.

If the Abbey can accomodate more and has shade why not give it a go.... either that or we all rock up to Tarin's acerage and see how many we can squeeze in.. the Iron Cross Bar can accomodate a few :lol:

Nickster - November 13th, 2012 at 07:40 PM

There's always Pelican Park at Redcliffe.... They held a Mustang Show there last month.. and a Wheels of the Century Show earlier this month. If it works for them...? Dubs by the Beach!?

tar76 - November 13th, 2012 at 08:01 PM

If only i had brought that 15 acres in Woodford mate it would be a goer!! Your right the Iron Cross bar can always quench the masses:D

Speaking of that Nickster when are you coming over for a brew?

Hey that's not a bad idea about Redcliffe that place has heaps of room and all the other stuff people want.
