G’day everyone,
My dad and I had a quick look at the VW fastback at the clearance sale at Great Western today. It was a 1970 that was last registered in 1987. As my
dad and I were looking over the car, a man walked up and proceeded to tell us that he had owned a few Volkswagens over the years.
The fasty wasn’t in too bad of condition but the man went on to tell me that the car was f**ked and needed a lot of work. My dad made a comment on
how the seats, door trims etc. were still in great shape. In reply the man said “oh, it isn’t that good, and the red is the most common colour for
interior”. I got the feeling he didn’t want us to be in the bidding for it.
We couldn’t stay for the auction as we had an appointment in Ballarat, so I took some pics and we headed off.
Later this afternoon on our way home from Ballarat, we drove by the house of the auction just to see if the car had gone. There was a car there with
the fasty loaded up on a trailer. Just as we pulled up across the road, the car started to take off. I quickly got my camera out and got out of the
car to take some pics of it leaving. I looked at the driver of the car to see the same man who earlier told me that the car was f**ked…
Not long after that we were talking to a man who was at the auction. We asked him how much the VW sold for, he said $130.
i understand the flipping cars but why tell a load of bullshit along the way?

i understand the flipping cars thing but why lie to other vw guys, its gonna pop up
Its sad when people with open minds and ears take the opportunities to appreciate and listen out on peoples opinions, with trust in their wisdom etc.
only to get burnt. I was one of those people, getting stung many times since i jumped in the car game as an enthusiastic teen.
Its come to the point where to prevent getting shafted, take everyones word with a grain of salt, by all means take it into account but make your own
judgments. This includes cruddy advice from dodgey car salesman, parts salesman as 'supposed' reputable automotive parts retailers and even fellow
vee dubbers. There are snakes everywhere in every facet in it for them selves.
On the other hand, if you find someone who knows what they are doing and saying, keep em' close!
I went through many cars and people before I found my ones. Yep, I learned to take everything with a grain of salt very long time ago.
At auctions IGNORE people while inspecting
and know how much yr willing to spend dont go over board
I see he bumped his starting bid from $100 to $500.
Probably mates with that knob job from heritage park trying to flog that black Karmann ghia.
all out to make a quick buck.
So this guy bought a car at auction how is he a stooge was he bald and going woo woo woo?Talking shit about the car is his way of marketing? If people listen to him talking shit that's thir lost unless the fast was a complete price of crap which could very well be the case and maybe it is shit and scraps only $110 a ton.
I can't see the problem, the car went to auction, you couldn't stay to bid so it wouldn't matter what he told you, the other fella got it for a song, good for him
If you stayed what was going to be your max bid, were you going to.
I can't really see how a clean, rust free, non dented, not dirty, no broken windows, nice interior is fucked!
Has he cleaned it up and taken all the rubbish out, pumped the tyres up.
have I missed something
