[WTB - WA] Beetle - have cash
Doug Sweetman - December 15th, 2012 at 02:59 PM

Hi all,

I've decided it's time to get back into the world of dubs so am on the look out for a solid beetle to enjoy. I have a cash budget of $3,000 - $4,000, and am absolutely not looking for a pristine low mileage example.

I'd be interested to hear of any beetle going in the west, that meets the following;

- registered
- no major rust (I'm just not set up to do rust repair work yet and looking for something I can drive and develop)
- paint colour and condition not important, unless its pink...... In which case thanks but no thanks !
- year / model not important, I've had bugs previously from a '57 baja to a '73 superbug and can appreciate all of them.
- engine size not important, again I can work with whatever I end up with as a base
- no major mechanical hassles - I'm confident doing most things but a gearbox rebuild might stretch me a bit !!
- not a chop top convertible, wizard roadster or any other such abomination.

Hit me up with a reply or a pm if you are keen !!

Cheers,

Doug

Thanks mate, but I am looking for something a little closer to home ! Hard to justify spending a thousand bucks to get a five grand car home !

All the best with your sale, I had a 67 as my first bug, great year !

Hi Doug, know that you're looking in your area. Have you looked at gumtree. There is a nice beetle (not mine) advertised in Canberra that seems to be pretty good value. Cars in Canberra generally have no rust. From what I've been told would cost around $1000 to get it to WA.

Anyway, here's the link http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/symonston/cars-vans-utes/1963-volkswagen-beetl...

Good luck with your hunt.

Thanks Reub - there are a few real nice ones around, but both of those are twice my (meagre I know) budget of about $4k max.

There is a 73 S bug on gumtree that looks worth a look.....

SomeOne i know might be selling his super.
Although no rego but was driving beforehand.
Anyway price could be more in your budget.
If you like i can make some enquiries and tee up a meeting.

Bump :)

Doug Sweetman - January 10th, 2013 at 10:04 PM

Ok, stop looking guys ;) I found one.....

God help me I bought another bug.... A 72 superbug, older restoration that has been parked up and 'weathered' for a few years. Has super bug rust at rear vents but doesn't appear to have much elsewhere ( fingers crossed ).

Will throw some piccies up once I get it home, not rego'd so car trailer must be hired...

Thanks all who had a look about and sent me leads, much appreciated !!!!

Congrats dude

Doug Sweetman - January 10th, 2013 at 11:29 PM

Thanks Reub, a little nervous wheather I made the right call ($1500 unregistered older resto versus my previous plan of $4k for a rough but straight licenced bug), but will know soon enough I guess !!! At least I've been through the rear quarter rust work before ( my last 73 was ROTTEN thru there) so it's eyes open this time.
