FS: 74 L Bug with 1916 - Sold
beetleboyjeff - March 21st, 2013 at 09:25 PM

At the Australia day display on the town green in Port Macquarie, Garry Hargraves spoke to me about a 74 L bug he had restored for his daughter, but after getting it on the road with a Pobjoy 1916 (it was in the car when he bought it, but it has only done about 10,000kms), he decided it was a bit much for a new driver, so he got her a bubble car is is now selling the L bug.

74 L bug - $12,000 ono
Seller - Garry Hargraves - 0458 484451 (he is not on the forum, so you will have to ring him).
7th month 74 build.
Current NSW rego with 'BUG 74V' number plates
1916cc Pobjoy engine with twin Kadron carburettors - about 10,000kms.
No rust - Garry has been right through it, replaced any rust areas, and re-sprayed the car.
Empi 8 spoke mag. wheels.
Extra front sway bar.
Berg shifter & sports steering wheel.
1 piece door windows.
Updated front seats.
Back seat isnt' original, and has a big gap between the seat cushion & the seat back.

Looks like a damn good car to me.

Price Drop - $10,000 ONO.

Just re-registered, but isn't keen to see it just sitting in the shed hardly driven.

back when Whiteline Swaybars Australia was manufacturing swaybars , you had an option of 2 different types of front swaybars for a Superbug/L-bug .
You could purchase a large diameter front sway bar to replace the original or you could purchase an assist front swaybar ( like this one ) which clamped to the original swaybar . I have personally used this type and they work really well .

Great looking super... bit out of my price range...
Free bump

beetleboyjeff - May 11th, 2013 at 11:49 PM

Thanks Turboty. It is a great rust free car, but he is looking at what he has spent on it more than what he can sell if for I think.

Considering there is very little to do on it, it is still not a bad price.

You'll never get back what you up into a car but it looks like a good bug none the less,
Mike

Another price Drop.

Garry has just put another 12 months rego. on the bug, but really would like to sell it, so another price drop to $8,000.

I can't believe this top looking bug hasn't had more interest.

If I was still a shift worker I'd most likely have this in my garage as a weekend cruiser by now, seems nice :)

Out of my price range, that and I really want to build one myself, this one is too far already completed unfortunately!

1303Steve - October 17th, 2013 at 10:54 AM

Go and buy it Seb, it just needs slamming and wheels, the expensive hard bits are done

SebastienPeek - October 17th, 2013 at 01:10 PM

If I had a spare 8k I'd be all over it Steve!

So, did you buy it Scott, or do you just know who did, or if anyone did.

scot70wagon - November 11th, 2013 at 09:05 PM

Sitting in my driveway next to my square. Looks better in real life than the pictures show. Goes like a scalded cat too.

beetleboyjeff - November 11th, 2013 at 09:56 PM

I knew it was a damn nice car.

Good on you Scott.

bnicho - November 12th, 2013 at 02:57 PM

Nice to know it has a home. Removes temptation.

I recently crashed my own L bug and if it had been written off I was going to hotfoot it north and buy this. But Shannons decided to repair it.

I'm really glad though, as I'm quite attached to Olive.
