You will have difficulties with the air-bags.

Unless there is a loophole I dont know of, the only way to get them approved is if they are required (load assist)

I've found materials issued by queensland transport that specifically state that you cannot install it simply to raise and lower the vehicle.

I remember when I saw Gladys was for sale in QLD I always wondered how it was rego'd and how the guy that bought it would be able to get it rego'd. As I understand it this is the same pan with a different shell (?) so I wonder if that would make issues as well (body from one year, pan from another).

When Kristen installed the airbags in Gladys she was no longer able to be registered in QLD due to the airbags. This car is the pan of Gladys with a different body (bit like a Hollywood plastic surgery session) ;)

Rego is determined according to pan, so it would be registered as a 1960 Beetle. Getting it roadworthy again could be done by removing the bag setup, but I think a fair bit of cutting has been done to accommodate the new set up also. It's a neat set up, but unfortunately not able to be road registered.

Reading that link seems the only way to get it rego'd would be to remove the airbags, rego it, then put them back on, unless you find an engineer that knows a few loopholes.


I remember when this was forsale on ebay before it was purchased (I was looking at it myself).

The modifications were fairly substantial, I dont believe that you could "undo" them.
