Ivy’s Story
Ivy (named by former owner) was found in a shed down in the Snowy Mountains near Cooma about 3 years ago.
A German guy bought a farm down there in the 70’s/80’s and the shed was on this land. History before then is unknown but judging from the
condition of the car she has lived away from the coast. So she sat in a barn for 30-40 years until the guy I bought her from discovered her and then
spent a small fortune on getting her back on the road over the next year.
Mechanicals: The car was taken to Hans at Klaack Motors in Fairfield for all the work and the very thorough list of work done is
documented on the invoice for $10,000. Everything (and I mean everything) was gone through and replaced where needed out of Han’s stash of original
parts. There is too much to list.
Brakes overhauled, shocks replaced, steering - all done.
Semaphores are original and work perfectly - previous owner had some front and rear bumper mounted indicators installed for additional visibility -
these are hooked up to the turn signal arm inside.
Original engine was stripped & cleaned and runs perfectly…of all of the beetles I have owned she is by far the best to drive and the engine is
strong.
Exterior & Paint: The only rust that was found in the car was a small section in the floor pan which fixed & then the pan was
painted in POR15.
All panels are original to the car. The engine and gearbox are the originals, the chassis numbers all match up to the birth certificate.
There are knocks in some of the panels and the paint is a combination of original, primer showing through in parts and a letter paint job - sometime
before it was parked up 40 years ago. If you are a patina person then this car is for you. She is also a perfect restorer if that’s more your style
- rust free and very original. Car does not have side mirrors - never has.
I found an original bonnet mounted VW Australian rocket emblem in the US...not a cheap copy, the guy I bought it from had it re-chromed but never used
it - this comes with the car.
Interior: Doorcards, rubber mats, B-pillar vinyl, coconut matting are ALL original to the car. Seat frames are original but have been
re-trimmed to match the original cards ($1000+). The car has never had seat belts.
There is no headlining in the car - but it will come with the correct beige felt replacement from Wolfsburg West which cost $300 (I can have that
installed professionally at an additional cost). I found a NOS venetian blind in France - it is installed and comes with the car.
I changed the speedo to a KM/h model from the same year as the car but the car will come with the original MPH version too. Interior is original paint
on dash and pillars.
Other:
Car has 5 new tyres.
Comes with NSW plates ‘IV1955' (car was manufactured in 1955 but first registered in 1956 - previous owner chose to register it as a 1955)
Invoices for all work done past 3-4 years
Owners manual, birth certificate, early logbook, folder, o.g. jack, tool roll
Insured with Shannons for $17,000
Minor Niggles:
Gearbox is great except for reverse…still works fine but you have to keep your hand on the stick while reversing or it pops out. Something that I
meant to get done but it didn’t bother me enough to look at.
Headlining to be installed (as mentioned the correct replacement comes with the car and I can have it installed prior to sale at additional cost
Spare wheel - needs replacing or straightening. When I had the tyres replaced, the spare still had it’s original…the guys couldn’t keep air in
the new tyre because the wheel was bent.
Summary & Details:
This is a great original car that you can jump in and drive away with nothing to do.
I am in no rush to sell and am asking $11,500. I searched long and hard for Ovals when I bought this one and found nothing close to being as good
mechanically as this, let alone registered for the same kind of money.
Car is registered until 30th April 2014
All pictures taken during the past 6 months. More pictures available on request and I'll add a more standard set of 'for sale' pics over the
weekend.

Great looking car!
I walked past and said hello to you when you were bringing out your door cards. I asked what year and said I had a '67.
Best of luck with the sale
