My 3 months of garage/work space is up and this whim of a project is up for sale - never was able to give it the time it needed. It's what a real
estate agent would call a "restorers delight", and there is some rust in the floor on the RHS and lenses that will need replacing.
Looked at by Borris at Volkscare in Boronia this week for RWC, and his est was $1000-1500 work on the engine (seals, r/main gasket, loose heads and
stainer plate - full new engine seal/gaskets set will be included), plus suspension, exhaust and some structural work on top of that - suit someone
who has time / space, possible parts donor. Borris' list will be provided on request to those interested and the purchaser - I'm being 100% honest
on this puppy. Drove out to Boronia fine this week, on the way back it was cutting out more than before. Has an unregistered vehicle permit so can be
driven for the short term.
Engineering cert included from 1993 for the convertible conversion (work done by E H Gall). Receipts from volkspower, volksaffair and volksplace. Last
work done before I took ownership was to prepare for a wedding 3-4 years ago - rear drums and new engine fan. Twin carb, 1600TL.
Price - $1600negotiable, happy to discuss price with those interested, I really only know what I paid and have since put in, have seen other Type 3
out there in the $4-10K range, so think that's close to fair???
Location - irrelevant now
Describe the car accurately and fairly. Use The Samba's guidelines for conditions ( http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/conditions.htm )
No RWC, registration lapsed 2/2/2014, fair - poor condition but complete
Contact details - Andrew or PM/email (I've allowed the emailing thing via this forum so should be all cool)

1400...? Anyone
Oh and the 1000-1500 worth of work was at Boris' rates , so obviously less for those more skilled than I
Also did I say this includes:
- Haynes (or similar) workshop manuel
- replacement rear view mirror (the one on there is a bit crap and held together with tape)
- a 1600 engine gasket/seal kit (one of those eBay jobbies)
Whats not to love?
Have I been too honest...? Car, needs work, goes, is cool is the gist of it.
Car is now up on fleabay > http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111302281330?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid...
I've interest in the engine, but obviously prefer the whole thing goes to someone who's going to use it.
w/ some new photos up with it's top off.

Thanks Allbones, maybe it needs more patina to get the juices flowing..?
And yes, the "economic savior" has not yet come down from the heavens to save us... yet.
Thanks Allbones, maybe it needs more patina to get the juices flowing, everybody seems to be loving the patina at the mo..?

I don't mind it but found the look of it a little odd with the rear window and sides still there. Bit harder with a fastie to make it look good and keep the rear lid on there although I have seen one or 2 nicely done ones, when the top is down and the cover is on the folded top they look great. Maybe someone could convert it to a targa top?
Cheers Paul, understand, she's a bit different, but it's practically a roll cage, on a type 3... who wouldda thunk it?
I'd hoped that VIcRoads was going to make an early decision on allowing engineered vehicles on the club permit system, yet it seems that decision is
more likely mid-end of this year. If/when that comes through I'll probably keep her and spend the time restoring. I bought it b/c I'd never seen
anything like it (and it had all the engineer papers I needed). It's been up on fleabay, so I'll see how that plays out for the moment, but may end
up needing so resto advice further down the track.
Off topic, hope the clock arrived safely, was it a worker?
I've always thought type 3's looked good as utes too if done well.
Clock arrived, electrically a goer (just a tripped fuse) but the mechanics are tired. Will still be of some use as a pattern and for parts.
Hadn't thought about it as a ute. Good to hear the clock was somewhat useful.
Back on topic, she's now sold and off to be resto'd by someone else, sad day, but mixing French and German maque's was bound to end in some form of
capitulation. Ze French won zis time.
Great news that it's sold !
If the new owner wants to buy a full Fastback roof clip point him my way
Cheers,
Mark.
