My In-Laws have asked me to help them sell this wonderful old HK Kingswood. (Mods, I don't think this breaches any rules, but if it does feel free
to delete.)
This car was purchased by my Mother-In-Law in 1976(?) from a government auction.
While the "other" car was updated over the years the Kingswood stayed. It was reliable and cheap to maintain so it remained in daily use for my
father in law to drive to work. When my father in law retired a couple of years ago the Kingswood was also finally retired from daily use. It's only
been driven once or twice a month since. My In-Laws have now realised they no longer need a second car.
Details: HK Holden Kingswood 186ci red six, 1969 build plate, 3 speed column manual.
Options: front disc brakes, and synchro on first gear.
Odometer: Currently 32,946 miles. Believed actual total = 232,946 miles, but could be 332,946.
Passed New South Wales Pink Slip test (Roadworthy test) with no issues in May 2014. Currently registered in NSW to May 2015.
The car is all original except for a few period accessories and an 80's casette player.
Major Maintenance items:
Factory Stromberg Carburettor rebuilt in May 2014 (odo: 32,893 miles)
New rear wheel cylinders x2 in Feb 2013 (odo: 32,394 miles)
New tyres x4 in May 2007 (odo: 28,586 miles)
New radiator fitted in Oct 2005 (odo: 26,272 miles)
Welch plugs replaced in Jul 2004 (odo: 23,813 miles)
The brake master cylinder was replaced in the last few years but the record is missing.
A reconditioned engine supplied & fitted by Higginbottom in Jun 1978 at odo: 5,489 miles. Most likely that was actually 105,000miles.
Front seat repadded and recovered in the early 90's. Trim is a close match to original.
It was resprayed in the late 80's in the original colour. There now some rust evident in one front guard and various minor marks. It could also do
with a good buff.
The car has moved between NSW to Victoria and back again a few times as the RAAF posted my father in law to different locations. Hence the relatively
recent NSW numberplate it has today.
Spares included:
Complete set of side window rubbers not yet fitted included. Those on the car are badly perished.
There is also a spare ignition lock and switch. The original one developed a fault years ago but was repaired. The replacement already purchased was
hence never fitted.
This really is a lovely old car that has been maintained properly it's entire life. It drives very well and does everything you could reasonably
expect of a 45 year old Holden. It could be pressed straight into daily service as is. Alternatively a light restoration to bring it up to new
condition would be an easy project.
I'm sorry to see it leaving the family. My wife even learned to drive manual on this car! Holdens are not really my passion so it would be better to
pass it onto someone who will appreciate it. (If it was a VW or BMC product I would be keeping it!)
The car is in Medowie NSW, a little North of Newcastle. If it does not sell by the end of June I will be driving it 1000km back to my home in Werribee
VIC to sell. I will assist with interstate or international shipping from Melbourne.
Price $5500
Serious buyers, please message me for contact details.
Great looking car for the price.
You don't see too many unrestored examples in such good condition, would make a great daily drive for someone.
Shouldn't have any trouble selling but try a couple of the Holden forums too.
