A sad day for me, given the time (years) effort and money ($$$$) put into her...however, time for someone to have some fun, as it is a fun car to drive, and goes like the clappers.

Hi

Can you tell me where you got that red headliner from? Looks awesome

Kafer Lover - August 1st, 2016 at 05:06 PM

Hi Jak,

Yes, headliner was done through Australian VW Performance Centre in Croydon (Melbourne). I'm afraid don't remember the interior fitter's details, but it was a one man show located not far from their workshop. Its custom by hand and he did a great job. He also did the carpets, etc.

I was originally going to go for a more shaggy headliner material, but I picked out the red velour material from suitable choices he provided.

BTW, the engine in this is the engine you built and had in your beetle. I've done maybe 1000 kms since (and added the tinware and alternator). Any further bits of knowledge you could add for anyone reading?

Cheers,
Tim

Hi Tim, thanks for the info

Yes I did recognise my little vw motor. I do miss building them.

The compression is only 8.5:1 & the heads are 40x35.5 valves. It still made 117hp @ the wheels at only 5500rpm which shows that there is plenty of potential for more power with some head work & a bump in compression. it also has total seal rings on the 94B pistons. It had huge torque which was perfect for a full weight street car. The rockers are Berg as are the chromoly pushrods, so it was nice & quiet & didn't really have that tappity vw sound at idle. Also with the RX7 oil cooler, you just couldn't cook the oil. It was fantastic.

regards
Jak
