SJK - October 3rd, 2004 at 06:01 PM

His name is Heimlich by the way - its German you know.

Kippa-Dee - October 3rd, 2004 at 08:37 PM

VERYYY!!!! interested.
I was desperate for a golf/Veedubs for a first car.

Just some nasty stuff to get out of the way, and honesty is greatly appreciated...

Auto/Man?
What condition?
Starts first time, every time?
what's going need to be replaced soon?
What sort of maintenace?
How much is she costing you in petrol, servicing, rego, etc.?
Why so cheap? I thought she'd be worth about $3000 or $4000...
Are you willing to wait about a month at which point I'll be more than happy to take off your hands?
Where are you located? Can I test drive?

Thanks,

Joel

Auto/Man?

Manual

What condition?

Read above - and look at pics ol' boy !

Starts first time, every time?

Absolutely, never had reliability issues.

What's going need to be replaced soon?

The exhaust flex joint has a crack - so he's a bit louder than he should be, also there is a very small leak from the cooling system which I can't locate [def not the radiator though as it was replaced not too long ago] - thus the negotiable price.

What sort of maintenace?

All you need to do is change the oil and filter every six months, check the levels every week and anything else you just repair as it becomes a problem. It will come with a fresh oil and filter change - I can show you how its done if you want. This car is very simple to maintain.

How much is she costing you in petrol, servicing, rego, etc.?
Well rego is same as what everyone else pays, fuel economy is not bad but it is running on a carbie not fuel injection. Servicing see above, oil consumption is about 1.5 litres every 1000km, very good for the km's.

Why so cheap? I thought she'd be worth about $3000 or $4000...

Yes the car worth $3000 - $4000 but the market won't let me sell it at that price - believe me this is a VERY good price; and its a he.

Are you willing to wait about a month at which point I'll be more than happy to take off your hands?

Dude, if you pay me a non refundable deposit, its yours, I can sit on it till you have the cash.

Where are you located? Can I test drive?

The car is in Blackburn, but I'm not - give me an email to arrange a test drive, I'm only available on weekends.

I have a question for you to Joel, you sounded pretty keen on the Porsche 924 also - you making bids on anything eh ? Believe me the insurance is going to be a lot better with the Golf !!!

Kippa-Dee - October 4th, 2004 at 07:52 PM

Nope, just keeping my eyes open. I suggested this to my folks, but they don't seem terribly keen on a car this old. But I am.

Damn, Manual'll be a bit of a barrier... We've only had a manual for a brief period of 6 weeks during which I onyl got a few hours in it, so not terribly experienced with clutch... Was only just getting the hang of handbreak takeoffs, etc... But got 120hours+ in Auto...

As for the 924, more of an interest thing... But I doubt I'd get it. a) too big for a first car, b) insurance/rego c) Don't want that 'wank' factor of the average P-Plater, etc. Besides which, you have a VeeDubs, and my passion IS!!! VeeDubs.

The reason for a months wait was I'm 18 in a month, so this'll be my first car... What sortof cost are we talking for deposit? What sortof parts availability do we have here?

Thanks :)

And I'll refer to Heimlich as a He. Just used to referring to cars, guitars, boats as shes. Didn't mean to offend Heimlich :)

What sort of cost are we talking for deposit?

10% of agreed price [whatever that is] would be fine.

What sort of parts availability do we have here?

It comes with a stack of random parts, and they still manufacture just about every component and they're not expensive, for example the alternator had to be replaced not so long ago and I got a reconditioned one for $80 with exchange for the old one, I fitted it myself [VERY easy]. It comes withthree spare clutch cables [I just seem to collect 'em and I've never had one break] whereas on my current car [96 Peugeot 306] I was quoted $300 to replace my 'faulty' cable !!! If your keen to learn about car maintainance, this is an ideal car to learn on, I've got three car manuals which will go with the car along with the original owners guide.

Tell your parents this kind of car is as safe and more reliable than a Kia, Daewoo or Hyundai - and have a lot more style.

SJK - October 5th, 2004 at 12:30 AM

And if you want to buy a VW - no matter what kind, its gotta be manual. Autos are usually hard to find.

By the way - if I could keep him this is what I'd do :

SJK - October 5th, 2004 at 12:36 AM

Or this - well its pretty close to this already !

SJK - October 23rd, 2004 at 02:34 PM

I've had a potential buyer get the car inspected at Volksaffair in South Melbourne - they discovered some shocking news :

Compression : 80 155 150 160

The car also has about $1500 worth of work to be roadworthy, new tyres, new windscreen, exhaust, rear shocks etc.

So what I am now selling is a fantastic 2 door body with a still driveable but not so happy engine.

NEW PRICE $750

I will still throw in all the spare bits, I am really dispappointed with the result of the inspection, the block has done 340 000km without a rebuild so its quite remarkable that the compression is so even and high in the other cylinders - a testament to a well maintained car.

VolksFolks - October 24th, 2004 at 10:00 PM
