nice but maybe the to hard basket

robnjo - October 19th, 2004 at 07:16 PM

no splitty is in the "to hard basket" lol

Warrenm - October 19th, 2004 at 07:28 PM

We feel that too. Buyers would like bumpers, doors, hatches, quarter lights, door legs etc , dash panel but we don't really want to cut it up.

not to disrespect and to not be too hard on it, but being a 'hacked panel' isnt it already 'cut up'. the bumpers would be the most valuable i think.

Nothing has been hacked. Rear axle is on spring plates which would have to be replaced if you put later model trans etc and front, could be original or you can get modified beam from Indian Automotive as I understand.
All panels, chassis platform ,outriggers etc are original.

its a panel with windows!... :duh.
the engine bay is filled in, the head lights look to be plated over and then there is ford tail lights....;)
but im sure for the right dollars, it could be a project. :thumb

Agree with twoguns. And as you say all panels are original,
sorry but they arnt, look at the hacked in side window.
Id sell it in bits, I would not touch a panel van that has has windows hacked into it, its worth about 2 hundred dollars for bits.
Why would you restore this when you can find proper 11 window kombis .

Just my thoughts.

Cheers
Dave

As you said "each to their own"!!!!!Better to save a split.....stiff shit if its not a "PROPER" 11 window.

Thanks- seeing the windows were installed over 40 years ago it is a bit hard to be critical. No worse than increasing capacity of Beetles.

the barndoor that is for sale on here at the moment, had windows when it arived at the panel shop....and now its worth 20k....beauty is in the eye of the beholder....one mans trash is another mans treasure.. ive got a funny feeling that if "warrenm" listens to all this critisism and says..ok ill strip it, then one of you guys will be putting your hands up for something straight away, or else you would have simple minded your own buisness...yes?...come on!!! someone might buy it as is...why not? This whole kooky vw obsession spauned from people taking f#cked up old hippy beasts and bringing them back to life....why not do the same for this old girl?

my peace..

splittychick - October 22nd, 2004 at 06:40 PM

I'm with you Ash..........Everyone that says " don't touch that splitty coz its a converted panel" in afew years will be saying "where are all the splittys gone"!I personally don't like panels but would never say "to much rust, sell it for parts".A splittys a splittys, some are worth more & are rarer ,we don't all buy them to sell them as a profit in years to come!!!

robnjo - October 22nd, 2004 at 06:54 PM

Warrenm, you should also try "Just Car"....

57kombi - October 22nd, 2004 at 07:05 PM

What do you mean mind our own business????
This is a forum, that means you give and receive comments.
I made my comment because that is what I think.
If we were to mind our own business there would be no replies to posts.
Also to the people who like converted panels , why dont you buy it???

The seller is not conforming to the rules of this site, he has not listed a price, Why???

Also he really invited comments when he stated that it was the original panels, that is not correct, if he is stating such blatant untruths what else is wrong with it.
His excuse was it was done 40 years ago, who cares it has still been hacked, doesnt matter if it was 40 years ago or last week.

There is a reason it is still for sale, could be the fact that it is converted or he wants too much for it .

My thoughts and comments if you dont agree with them that is your choice, but you cannot stop me from having mine.

Cheers
Dave

My opinion is that with a bit of careful welding those hacked in windows could be sorted. It`s a bit of hard work but so is finding Splittys these days.
I think it should be saved but that`s my opinion.
And no I can`t buy it coz I`m skint and I`ve got 3 projects on the go.
Cheers
Graham.

Appreciate the comments even the negative ones. Shows that the VW following is still out there.
It is great to see from some comments that some keep their vehicles 100% original with no modifications aat all. Probably still use bias type tyres etc. Pity you have to put up with 6 volts though.
My wife and I have decided that we will probably give it away for our transportation costs to some enthusiast who is trying to do restoration on split but short of cash.
Having only been involved with kombis since 1962 we don't want to see this one destoyed.

Hi Warren,

As previously mentioned try and bring it to the show in November. Someone there will purchase it for sure. I don't think it should be given away as if you can't afford to buy a car...I doubt you can afford the $$$ to do a resto either... And we know how much budgets blow out when working with old cars!

There are usually about 40-50 cars on show at any one time, as alot of people come and go.

Plus its a great day out too....hope to see & meet you there- Wayne

Thanks Wayne
Will probably bring camper and bus to show and maybe our Beetle.
Have sent U2U

Hi,

Planning long term so should go well.
