I emailed the guy and he said that I couldn't look at it until I bid & won it. He did say that there was a small hole in the cab floor, and the front arches needed some attention, the sills needed attention but the main rust was under the nose - needing replacing. Is $4500 the going rate for this type of van in this condition?

$4500 sounds like a pretty good deal to me

look around. i wouldnt think so for a 11 window, but always its up to the buyer.

ishouldnt really say it like that, as i havent seen it, but if youre happy then sweet. the rust will come out over time so you will need to be prepared. being complete is a good thing.

Sorry 72 twincab , but you are way off the mark
. I think this is expensive for a bus that needs a resto, Also what do you think he has to hide if he wont show you it until you have won the bidding, what is he scared of.
This bus looks nice with a paint job.
But it needs what all unrestored buses need, ie sills ,doglegs, front etc etc etc.
So why do people pay $4-$6k, when they can still get them for under $2k, and they will still need the same work.
There is a guy on this forum PMGBUS, he finds buses and sells them on do a search, he sells them for under $2000, as he knows what it will take to get them sorted.

But if you want to spend more than you have to thats up to you.I am only trying to advise and help.

Cheers
Dave

Hang on a minute.
Not all unrestored splittys need sills and doglegs.
I have owned several.

like i said, be prepared. if they havent yet, they will for sure, and probably sooner rather than later. :duh

It is worth WHATEVER someone is willing to pay for it? Am i wrong?

Saw one of these just recently bought for 10k and needed complete undercarriage replaced and back to original to drive legally and SAFELY for however much. My old flatmate had a double barndoor splitty bought for $900 and sold couple of years later for a couple of grand approx. Now knowing what some people think its worth, i would have sold the other half, taken a loan, put it on creditcard!!!Its all relative

Should be able to check it out for that price. Too bigga risk to buy unsighted. What if it has been badly pranged and bogged?? Not being able to view smells wrong.
