Excellent source of new parts at excellent prices
Transparu - December 9th, 2004 at 10:23 AM

I just wanted to share a great experience I have had.

I have now twice ordered parts for my Transporter from http://www.autohausaz.com/  in Arizona.

The parts I wanted have been on their "Clearance Centre" list and I have purchased products a a fraction of prices I have been quoted here in Australia. These have included gaskets, oil seals, gas struts for the tailgate of my Transporter ( cheaper than having 22 yo ones regassed) and more. So far parts have been original part numbers, German made.

Autohaus service has been amazing. Delivery has taken 8-11 days from day of order.

They carry VW, Porsche, Audi, BMW and other parts.

I hope this is of use to others.

also brazilshopping.com is dirt cheap. i got a bunch of rubbers and taillights from there.

68AutoBug - December 9th, 2004 at 12:37 PM

Thats the problem...
Brazillian parts are crap.... Usually....

I prefer german parts if they are affordable....

Made in USA Parts are also Top Quality......

Mexican parts are also crap....

Can anyone tell Me of a Good quality Brazillian Part??
I bought some throttle cables from the US..
they were made in Brazil... not VW do Brasil....
so maybe they are better quality than VW do Brasil..
Anyone know???

well done doc

Brazilian cylinder heads, mag engine cases, piston and barrell kits, fuel pumps are ok, push rod tubes, 1.25 rockers are very good, twin Kadron carb kits, there are lots of good parts from brazil, but there are lots of bad ones too, mainly body parts.

baybuscamperkid - December 9th, 2004 at 09:09 PM

im not sure that all the stuff i got was made there. door rubbers look just like the originals, windscreen rubber seems amazing quality, but i must admit the taillights are a bit on the cheap side, still, 2 door rubbers, plus boot rubber plus taillights (including housings) for under $250au including post and Im not complaining:thumb

baybuscamperkid - December 9th, 2004 at 09:11 PM

sorry to steal your post Transparu, didnt mean to.

68AutoBug - December 10th, 2004 at 02:28 AM

You mean to say they make G strings in Brazil???

Holy Jumping catfish Batman.....

After all they did make Beetles and Kombis for many years...
so some parts must have been OK....
so it looks like mainly body parts that lacks the VW Quality...

The Brazillian & Mexican Beetles sold in the Philipines aren't worth anything used.... as they rust quite fast....
compared to German Beetles....

Does anybody know the pros and cons of importing a Kombi, new, from Brazil?

(apart from the difficulty of reading their VW web site!)

Anthiron - January 6th, 2005 at 01:24 AM

if its a new kombi using the old air cooled engine and same old brakes etc. then remember that they have to comply to the ADR standards of the year they were made to be registerable over here.

i think u will find it would be impossible to register it after u imported it.

Jason - January 6th, 2005 at 02:24 AM

So how do Jap imports get in? Are they modified to comply? Or naturally higher spec than Australia in key respects? or am I still missing the point?

Anthiron - January 6th, 2005 at 02:36 AM

no what i mean is that the safty features of a kombi van which essentially hasnt changed in design since 1979ish would not be up to standards in OZ. they get by in brazil and mexico because they dont have such a high standard.

jap imports get in because they arent just a remake of an old car. they have the features that u need to comply.

the exhaust and brakes for instance on the kombi u import which may have been made in 2001 but they arent good enough for the australia standards for 2001. they passed in 1979 but nowadays if a car company brought out a car with the stoppping power of an old kombi or a beetle they wouldnt be able to be registered.

i hope this is clearer.

i may be wrong but i doubt it.
