68 Squareback for sale
stephenianjames - January 13th, 2005 at 07:43 PM

Hey guys,

I am going to have to sell my beloved 1968 squareback to help finance renovations to my house. Some details of the car are as follows:

- 1968, manual, swing axle, front disks, 1600 single port motor with twin solex's,
- Stripped to bare shell 2-3 years ago, and rebuilt/repainted and therefore no rust
- Excellent interior, no cracks in dash (reskinned), newish carpets
- Will come with genuine empi sprintstars as well as original wheels with good tyres
- WIll come with brand new Clarion MP3/CD/tuner detachable face head unit and Clarion 3 way speakers (bought about a year ago but never installed..have receipts)

When I bought this baby I vowed never to sell, but now I am in a financial position where I need to sell. I have had the car for about 5 months, and I had some mechanical work done to get the RWC. I havent driven it much since so I am assuming it would pass again no probs.

I am chasing $6000 with all the goodies mentioned above plus additional spares (motor, lenses, some trim, lights, gauges etc) but will take offers.

I am located in Hughesdale, Melbourne (near Chadstone) and you can phone me on 0408137017 or U2U for any queries. I will email pics or post here if I can figure out how (I know pics have to be under 50kb).

Cheers,

Steve

schweet!!!

PurpleT3 - January 14th, 2005 at 02:29 PM

That dash is beautiful, I'm so jealous. Who did the reskin?

What gauges are in the under dash cluster, they look pretty cool.

Allround a beautiful looking car, sorry you've got to sell.

Gibbo - January 14th, 2005 at 02:53 PM

Yep, I might be interested in those gauges for my squareback.

Got any more details etc?

Fossil - January 14th, 2005 at 03:27 PM

I once owned a honey brown square nicknamed Boris, and it was a schweet ride and one of the best handling VW's I've driven.
All the best with the sale as Type 3's are koooooolllllllll

stephenianjames - January 14th, 2005 at 05:10 PM

Thanks for the compliments etc guys. Purple..dont know eho did the reskin..was like that when I bought it. But I've heard 'Dashboard Doctors' in Melb do a good job pretty cheaply. Sorry I dont have any phone numbers etc though.

Gibbo, the guages were in the car when I bought it. The tacho is a 'Yazaki' brand and the other guage cluster has 2 amp meter guage and an oil pressure guage (which currently isnt working..may not be wired up). The tacho works though.

Any takers on a really clean square? Any offers? (reasonable ones)

Cheers,

Steve

Hey Steve,

U2U sent mate. Hate having to sell the car but my finances are stretched to the limit. Would be happy to see the car go back to it's previous owner.

Cheers,

Steve

Just an update on the square. It looks likely that a bloke is going to fly down next weekend from the sunshine coast to drive the car back home, so the car is reserved for him at the moment. However if anyone is interested please let me know and I'll add to the waiting list!

Cheers,

Steve

No worries Steve..understand mate. Thanks for that.

stephenianjames - January 22nd, 2005 at 07:55 AM

Just letting everyone know that if the potential buyer doesnt end up buying, the car will be off the market. I have sorted out my finances but promised the guy the car and will honour the deal (fingers crossed he backs out though).

I was cleaning the car this morning and installed the aforementioned stereo and got a bit teary eyed at the thought of selling the old girl.

I hope for your sake he backs out too, shes a beauty.:)

koolkarmakombi - January 22nd, 2005 at 08:09 AM

be really hot in a black car in qld!

stephenianjames - January 22nd, 2005 at 05:10 PM

Yeah thats true...actually..arent black cars ILLEGAL in Queensland?! Just something I heard (or made up).

vern74 - January 22nd, 2005 at 05:25 PM

They aren't illegal
but they bloody well should be

stephenianjames - January 22nd, 2005 at 09:57 PM

well someone make up a law. I wouldnt want to do anything illegal like selling a queenslander an illegal car!

Nah..I will go through with the deal even though it breaks my heart :(

Unfortunately the keys to the beast will be handed over tomorrow. The engine had been pulled out and overhauled, and all little, niggly problems (nothing major) have also been fixed. I hate selling it (especially since I have now sorted out my finances) but a deal is a deal so I have to let it go :(

However, I have a lead on a splitty single cab that I'm checking out tomorrow night, so it might be out with one VW and in with another. The kombi is a resto project though, so it wont be on the road for ages even if I do buy it.

Thanks to all those who were interested in the car, and I'm sorry it has been sold to the first in queue.

Cheers,

Steve

BUGBOY - January 28th, 2005 at 09:53 PM

I would have told them its off the market.
At the end of the days its still your car till money changes hands.:duh

stephenianjames - January 28th, 2005 at 10:13 PM

Maybe I should have takne it off the market..but I had already made a verbal agreement with the bloke to sell the car, and I dont want to shaft anybody! I do regret selling the car, but I have been let down on cars that were going to be sold to me before, and I guess I dont want to disappoint the next bloke.

There may be a split screen single cab around the corner though so it's not all bad. Maybe it's just a bit off good karma coming my way!

BUGBOY - January 28th, 2005 at 10:19 PM

Well I hope it all works out in the end mate.
You never know what can happen:blush

stephenianjames - January 30th, 2005 at 07:42 PM

Car has been handed to the lucky new owner. Things are looking OK though as I have just bought a reasonable single cab split screen kombi!
