byronbus - April 11th, 2005 at 11:35 PM

yeek, not cheap

h - April 11th, 2005 at 11:50 PM

aye karumba! :o

slowbay70 - April 12th, 2005 at 07:17 AM

can easily spend that on the job, having come very close myself recently, if i had redone all of my 9 seats and put shiny parts in the engine very easy
maybe the bay is comming of age!

helbus - April 12th, 2005 at 08:42 AM

I can understand. How much do you think the HELBUS has cost? I did nearly all the work myself and can easily add up big dollars.

It kinda makes curvy window's look exy now doesn't it?

Still they ask the price and the market will dictate what will happen next.

Fossil - April 12th, 2005 at 02:41 PM

Man if the $23k is still there not surprised as I saw it some time ago and laughed :D the other also :P

Fossil - April 12th, 2005 at 02:42 PM

Mine (built by Peter Keegan) was a steal then - hey byronbus ??

winerot - April 12th, 2005 at 09:10 PM

look out splits here comes the bays
ive been offered $10k's for mine twice, it normally parkes in driveway
beside my shop so ppl see it all the time, they were serious offers a couple of yrs ago, naturally i said no & never but if those two sell whats it going to do to bay prices as now bays are affordable to most.

Fossil - April 13th, 2005 at 12:00 PM

mmm interesting comment

slowbay70 - April 13th, 2005 at 11:08 PM

the bay will have its day!! smooth rides, middle seats available for people movers and groovey soccer moms to take kids around, and they look better than any van being made by anybody today!! go the bays!!!

choo - April 15th, 2005 at 10:25 AM

Man, I saw this months ago. It's plain and simple, he over-capitalised. Good luck to him, but 23k, really.
What happened to accessable fun?

Not that I'd pay 23K but still.

winerot - April 15th, 2005 at 08:26 PM

got volksworld today & looked at the bays for sale
they are going the way of the splitscreens "over there"
personally if i had the money id buy the grey one in
the for sale forum for three thousand, it looks the part
but id change some of the interior just some of it

slowbay70 - April 15th, 2005 at 09:05 PM

i reckon the price of a vw depends on the "rarity" of a type/make, which means, how hard it is to find one that isnt full of rust, or if the majority of a vintage/type have a certain level of rust that has been established as normal, with a normal price tag associated with how much it will cost to make it roadworthy/rust free which leads to an elevated price tag, add in the demand and voila, appreciating vehicles. So all of us bay owners either have to wait a few more years for our vintage to rust away so it costs more to keep them on the road, or the demand increases...hopefully most of the bays live on the coast!!;)

lost - April 15th, 2005 at 10:41 PM

here we go again, the person who owns it wants 23k for it. So what? It is his/hers to sell at whatever price they want for it. Judging by the pics there wouldn't be much change out of 23k if bought a microbus and did all the work that this appears to have had done to it.
If some one buys it I hope they are happy with their purchase, and hope they get years of use out of it. I saw volksworld today and the prices the poms a re asking makes this look like good value.

slowbay70 - April 15th, 2005 at 10:47 PM

btw what i wrote was very tongue in cheekText

Bays are going the way splits are.
It is all about supply and demand.
how many would actually contemplate doing a full resto on a bus.
Not many, that is why the prices are going to increase as most buses now do need some sort of work doing on them.
So if you want a good restored bus you are going to have to pay for it.

In Europe the bays are really increasing in price as a lot of people see that they cannot afford a split so they get the bay as it is a bit cheaper.
Another thing I am seeing is as the enthusiast gets a bit older they need more room than a beetle has and so they get a bus, this way they can carry the family etc.

Cheers
Dave

vwtyp2 - April 16th, 2005 at 09:10 AM

my original comment wasn't implying that it was a ridiculous asking price.
It was a question if the bus belongs to an AVD member.
then I state that it's a nice bus.

My Bus owes me over $12k and I haven't got to the interior yet.
I can first handedly fully appreciate the costs in restoring/customising a bay window kombi.

So does it belong to an AVD member or not?

slowbay70 - April 16th, 2005 at 08:25 PM

sorry if we hijacked your post, over zelous bay owners a bit excited about feeling ok about all the money spent on restorations!!

toplessbug - April 16th, 2005 at 08:29 PM

i was given my bus for wrecking but after stripping it i decided it was too good so a full resto was in order---- 18 months later and thousands of bucks i have a good shell beautifully painted and partially reassembled ,23k is not outrageous i rekon mine wont be far off that when its finally finished
