1957 Oval for sale. Previous owner restored/reconditioned about 6.5 years ago. 1600cc, discs front end, extractors, 12V, semaphores still wired in. in good condition. No major rust structurally or in the usual places - only about 6 very small (2-4mm in size) locations. Interior excellent. Not many of these kicking around any more. Pictures available. Very good solid car, reluctant sale. Currently unregistered (but gets started every week). Paint starting to fade. Please email me if you want to view the photos.

write down your VIN number, then check this site out

Following boersch's advice and checking out the web site I've discovered the following:
Fahrgestell Nr (I assume this is the VIN number) is 1249746
Underneath this is stamped MKA 17061 (have no idea what this number is for).

Thus, it appears the chassis is actually a 1956, not 1957 as I thought it was.

The oval certainly does have later model wheels on it though.

I'm 99% certain I used to own this Beetle. I will check out my photos for the registration no. to check.
If so, I can provide I bit of the history from when I bought it in 1985!
