57 kombi, FOR SALE
57kombi - April 29th, 2005 at 09:08 PM

Just fishing at the moment as I might be thinking of selling the bus.More than likley I will sell it.
You all know it and if you havent seen any pics let me know.
This was a ground up resto that took 3 and a half years and was finished last november and I can guarantee that there is not 1 mm of rust anywhere on the bus. Everything that could be replaced was, even down to the clips holding the new brake pipes and hoses.

Right to abide by the selling rules.
Dave
Adelaide
Serious offers only, I cant put a price as it is only worth what someone is willing to offer, obviously if it is not enough I wont sell.
Contact via u2u.

And just incase you have been asleep for the past 4 years heres a couple of pics.

Cheers
Dave

slowbay70 - April 29th, 2005 at 10:19 PM

why do you put yourself through so much just to sell? you must not have a wife/partner..mine would kill me!!

BenettonVW - April 30th, 2005 at 01:25 AM

Hope it is all worth it mate.

If mine looks 10% of what that looks, I'll be happy!

BLUE_62 - April 30th, 2005 at 01:45 AM

Thats a magic looking bus mate. Dont be too quick to sell it off. I had a old mini sometime ago and i sold it only to regret it not even 3 mths down the track. I dont wanna sound like a dad but just think it through before you make a decission.
What ever you do it will be for the right reasons but hell dude. Its a sweet ride, by far one of the nicest i have seen!

57kombi - April 30th, 2005 at 09:07 AM

I am being totally honest as I said I am just fishing at the moment as my circumstances have changed and I am not using the bus as much as I would like to.
We are also expecting our second child in August and the money that is sitting in the shed doing nothing would come in handy.
Also I am a bit bored with it.
Dont get me wrong it is a brilliant drive and I think it looks great , but, I enjoyed the building of it the most.

If I do sell it I would like it to go interstate as that way I wont see it all the time.

I have had offers from overseas since it was featured in Split Sceen Scene, but I would like the buyer to actually come and see it first, I Will NOT sell it just by someone seeing pictures of it, they have to come to Adelaide or send someone they trust and drive it and inspect it first.

You can slag me off(as is the way of the forum lately) but I have been honest with my thoughts and if it doesnt sell so be it, I might even change my mind tomorrow??

PhatRat
A kombi had no rear seats and a micro bus did, plus a little bit of trim differances like a micro had a roof liner.

my email is

reliableinv@optusnet.com.au

If you want my phone number to talk about it email me or u2u me.
I have nothing to hide.I can take any pic of any bit of the bus you want, I think you have all seen everthing anyway but I will let you see anything you might need.

How many times must I edit this, I keep forgetting things.

I will not split or sell bits separate, what you see is what you get it all goes as one, including the roofrack, helphos.
I even have a set of rock and roll hinges and a set of rear mudflaps I havent fitted yet. If one goes they all go.

Cheers
Dave

frenzix - April 30th, 2005 at 11:56 AM

are you buying a beetle?

57kombi - April 30th, 2005 at 06:51 PM

I think the only thing you can guarantee is that I will not be buying a beetle.
Each to their own and a beetle is not mine.

I know what I will get to restore and might let you know at a later date.

Cheers
Dave

Wonderful looking bus. I love the red interior.

What is the white round thing up against the left front windscreen?

57kombi - May 1st, 2005 at 09:33 AM

Its a Helphos spotlight.
Used for looking at signs etc as it can be moved from inside the cab.
It is bakerlight and made in Germany.
They were used in the 50's and 60' in Europe.

Cheers
Dave

57kombi - May 1st, 2005 at 10:38 AM

Wont be the first time I have changed my name.
When the forum first started I was the only one from S.A. and the name was just " Dave in Adelaide"
But when it got popular I had to change it.

Cheers
Dave

63Splitty - May 1st, 2005 at 10:52 AM

That postie bike has changed you Dave!

sleeper - May 1st, 2005 at 03:17 PM

57 kombi,
any starting figure you would tell us?

57kombi - May 1st, 2005 at 06:07 PM

At the risk of getting slagged off .
I was offered around 30k at Christmas and was thinking of around the mid 20's.

As I said it is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay.
I have said before that I have spent $20k cash myself and also did all the work with help from a few friends.
It took 3 and a half years so work out a labour charge for that and that is how much it would cost to pay for a kombi in this condition.

This is not a quick blow over with a spray gun.
There is NO rust in this bus and everything is new.
This is why I would like the prospective buyer to come and see for themselves the condition.

A few who have never restored a bus will question the price but that doesnt bother me at all as the ones that have restored one like T2 and Roy at Classic will know how much it costs.
To give you some idea
The roofrack $900
Deluxe trim $850

Cheers
Dave

57 Chook Shed - May 1st, 2005 at 08:12 PM

Dont` think he`ll be changing names, more like changing forums.
You get a better class of people in the Holden scene hey Dave!?

57kombi - May 1st, 2005 at 09:52 PM

No I will be sticking with another splitty but I wont be going to such extremes as I did with this one.

Cheers
Dave

luv the pic on the beach ,that is one extremely awesomely restored bus
$25-30 is a great price for one that wants a perfect vw bus, but we all have a disease of buying a shit box or semi decent vehichle and going though the pain of hands on resto work, thinking well be able to do it on the cheap and some of us havent got there still after years .Its good to see someone has, and this is a perfect example of a finished one ,That word "FINISHED" is scary because before that hapens to the few its does ,there all ready looking on ebay or in ackyards for the next find,
Dont mind me i just had a nice strong tea and im thinking alloud

...never a truer word has been spoken..

OK! Dave....whats the next step ebay? samba?

57kombi - May 1st, 2005 at 10:41 PM

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.
I have had a few enquiries from members of the Split Screen Van Club site as it was featured in their magazine this month,
It works out quite cheap for them over there about 10.000 pounds.
I am not in a hurry and I have already knocked back some offers from over here as they were from people who would sell it on again.
I would like it to go to a person who would appreciate it and yes I dont need to sell it so I can be fussy who it goes to.

I dont think it will stay in Australia as the scene is just not as big as in England, I dont really care what country it ends up in as long as it is an enthusiast who buys it.

Cheers
Dave
