is this bus sold yet?

66kombi - August 22nd, 2005 at 08:02 AM

Glider69
Not yet, have a guy from Sydney coming to look but is still for sale and good value for anyone not wanting to go through the years of pain and money drain to get one of these up to scratch.

66kombi - August 26th, 2005 at 07:17 PM

Ok so I have reduced the price to get some interest going. Price is now $16700

This bus has had everything done, basically the bottom 6 inches around the entire car has been removed and replaced along with all the ususal body work. All steel, no bog. All window frames have been restored. Body work alone cost 10000.
Totally fish oiled to prevent rust. Chromed front badge, powder coated bumpers and wheels, new hub caps, brake lights, indicators, eye lashes, torsion bars, elephant ear mirrors etc.
This car has been restored to original.
Inside all new door trims, new curtains, knobs, bed installed (can be taken out very quickly if necessary) inside panel work repainted, new chrome window latches and runners, felts etc.
Engine is a 1600 runs well, new dizzy, carb serviced and regular services done. New brake lines, accel cable, brake master cylinder, shoes, drums shaved, just spent $1100 on brakes.
I am only selling this car as i now have a work car which is paid for and cannot justify having this beautiful bus sitting idle in the garage. I have pictures of the resto if required (only hard copies).
My number is 0408640066 or email me at benobass@hotmail.com to ask questions or arrange an inspection.
Ben

VW community, do you think i am asking too much for this bus?
It has been professionally done and is not modified at all....tried to keep it totally original.
I see a lot of people jumping at the chance to buy a bus for 3k un-restored but i am sure these people either have no idea how much it actually costs or they skimp,,,,,there has been NO skimping on this bus......
Thoughts?????

Looks dam good to me, I think you just have to sit on it until the right buyer comes along who has got the cash to splash.
If you check out Car Sales.com.au there has been a few sitting on there for atleast a month or two at a price alot higher than yours....Good luck.

tinman - September 1st, 2005 at 09:45 PM

I'm also very suprised no one has jumped at the chance to grab the bus. It looks very nice!
I only wish I had the money atm.

It would be sad to see it go to the UK, I hope someone here picks it up quickly.

Professionally done and all, it seems like a reasonable price to me: looks sweet as! One thing though, I reckon the people buying unrestored ones cheap may well realise that they're up for 20K in the long run, but it's a lot easier to part with a little at a time than one big chunk. Also, my own perception (if it was a bus that was somewhat well known) would be that it would always be known as so-and-so's old bus, rather than my bus. Not necessarily logical hey, but they're my thoughts. I'd feel bad doing much customizing on something that someone else had spent a lot of time and effort.

Good luck there man!

Fossil - September 7th, 2005 at 04:55 PM

As with all trying to sell yo must be patient & the right buyer will come along

66kombi - September 16th, 2005 at 03:58 PM

bump me up!

66kombi - September 19th, 2005 at 07:33 AM

Thanks for the opinion, i like it and i am sure that someone else will too. The bed etc can be taken out in about 5 mins. I wanted the bed so i could use the bus practically and show it off on the road when i went away for a weekend. if that doesn't suit the buyer then it is just as easy to slot a row of seats in.

The interior pant is the colour the outside should be, i got the lotus white done and decided i liked it that way. I still have the sea blue 2 pac which will go to the buyer and would be an easy finish.

up we go!

66kombi - October 12th, 2005 at 07:52 AM

Still for sale and will consider any reasonable offer

nicko - October 12th, 2005 at 01:04 PM

Have you thought about getting a NSW blueslip for it. Might increase your chances of sale in NSW. Also was it a microbus originally as it seems to have the microbus chrome strips on the interior front door panels

crewcabconnection - October 12th, 2005 at 01:20 PM

no don't think you're asking too much ... but maybe the AVD audience isn't the right one ... everyone loves a bargain, my experience is that it's more so on here as we're all such experts ay....:D.

Anyone that's restored one properly or is resporing one properly will vouch for the value for money aspect. Thought about selling it to the pommies????

66kombi - October 12th, 2005 at 03:11 PM

Am not sure if it is a microbus or not...the chrome strips were on the old panels..I just put them on the new ones.

Crewman
I have thought about selling it to the pommies....any ideas for web sites that may be good to advertise on?

Thanks,
Ben

ltonk - October 12th, 2005 at 03:55 PM

Try http://www.thesamba.com  .

Also try http://www.carsguide.com.au  , http://www.carsales.com.au  http://www.dsk.com.au  , http://www.carpoint.com.au  these are all free of very cheap advertising.

I have sold 3 Kombi's on http://www.ebay.com.au.  You can use it as a tool for very cheap advertising and if you set a higher start price you will not have to risk the sale. I find that most people that are after a car will come and look and it and offer to settle off ebay anyway.

Good Luck with the sale,
Luke

Samblers - October 12th, 2005 at 05:07 PM

I really like this bus and would have test driven were I not 9000 miles away and arriving on the wrong side of Aus!

Be Patient, and please dont bring it over here :(
