not a chance of getting a mid sixties bus in good condition for $3k, unless it doesn't have and engine, gearbox, wheels, and interior. don't want to burst your bubble but that's just the way it is these days, unless you have friends in the mafia or some such.

you'll get a decent late 60s beetle for that price though. :)

Dude, http://www.dsk.com.au  - just Guest browse it - not gonna get squat that runs for 3k though mate, but should get something to start on, if you really want a split. Running realiable at about 10-12k ... but shmick examples are a a good 20k+, too many variables to go into, but you're not gonna get much more than a project for 3k these days, esp if you want IRS, lowered, paint, big motor.

Early bay would be my bet for 3k - Check Kombibobs SubeBay - it can be done...but Kombis at 3K are probably gonna be pretty ordinary still, unless you get lucky.

Don't underestimate the cost of fixing VWs, so give yerself room for those nasties that show up AFTER you buy it.

I'd got with a nice original 60's bug and then start playing.

Welcome BTW. Gotta start somewhere ay.

Yeh, i figured $3000 wasnt going to get me something perfect, but i though a bit and i only want to spend $2000 - $2500 and if its not perfect, thats cool, cause it would be sik to slow fix up, i have found a few beetles around the place so hopefully, i will get a vw soon, but yeh cheers for the info.

Liam_81 - March 16th, 2006 at 03:51 PM

Adelaide huh... was there last year for a mountain bike race. Nice city, good bear (go coopers) and good music (go hilltop hoods)

Dougie - March 16th, 2006 at 03:53 PM

Yeh mate, LOVE THE COOPERS

Dougie - March 16th, 2006 at 04:16 PM

i have made a decision not to get a kombi, i want something smaller and cheaper to run and keep, so i think im heading towards a beetle.

shaihulud - March 17th, 2006 at 05:04 AM

I recently bought a registered '74 beetle in very ordinary but rust free condition for $850 all up. That's $500 for the car, $200 for 6 months rego, $100 for points and other bits to make it go well enough for me to be happy to dak around in it, and $50 for a set of Herbie stripes and numbers.

Look around, be prepared to walk away form a car that is clearly bodgie. Resist the temptation of a cheap Beetle that has been heavily modified. It's cheap because it's bodgie.

Be happy with a good little stock standard Beetle and you will do it in your budget. Then you 'fix it up' the way you want it done.

Yes, that is very nice, but out of my budget and to far away, i live in Adelaide. I found a 1962 tourer convertible, slammed to the ground runs rele well, all in pretty good cond, wat do ya reckon one of that standard would be worth, its a 1300 single port.
