saw one on ebay not long ago. Went cheap.

vwjon - September 16th, 2006 at 11:04 PM

the one on e-bay didnt reach its reserve, the guy wants to get back te cash he spent getting it thru pits. i think he wants $5000 or there abouts. if anybody knows him, the west aussie pom wanting a gear box is still very interested. especially if i can't get a box for my own syncro.

oops, my bad.

I'vv heard of people paying $5000.00 for just a box so if this fellow only wants that for a hole car grab it befor someone else does.
By the way VWJON if your avatar photo is any indication nowonder you have a brocken box ,THEY DONT LIKE LIFTING A WHEEL as this usually results in :cry shortly afterwards as the box is weak as p#ss.
i have also heard that ther is a fellow over here doing a conversion with relation to the front drive shaft that you can disengage this shaft when not in use and this also apparantly will save the boxs a lot.

theres a breaker in NSW wanting $4500 for a box. yes the avitar is my van. they really dont mind lifting a wheel, they just have crap under engineered bearings that collapse with age and use. i've seen and done worse in a syncro. but i should have listened to the whining when on tarmac, i doubt i could have saved it but you never know. it was making alot of noisewhen i bought the old girl.
there are a few "de-couplers" avaliable on the market but they are not cheap!

Schmoburger - September 20th, 2006 at 01:04 PM

hmmmm..does this mean i should fix my whiny input shaft bearing?
