Indeed Chris. I do have a 74 bug in fairly shabby condition, that has been Herbied and which is sort of for sale. I can be persuaded to sell it now, rather than later if I know that it will go to a good home and be Bajaed.

ok hubby really really really wants a baja
but he need the kit he wants to baja my avator my little green machine , but he would prefer a hard top rather than the convertible

if you have baja kit , he would sell his first born for it LOL

$500 for the Herbie, but I warn you its clapped out.

The pan and body are OK, the front suspension clunks, the engine clatters, the gearbox rumbles, the tyres are fair and old, the interior is tatty and torn, it has rego until January 2007 and great headlights from a Mini Minor, but for all that it's still the coolest car that I have ever driven because it's a Herbie. Ask the local kids.

So the decision has been made. Herbie's now for sale.

No. Herbie is a 1973/4 1300 single port, ball joint, drum brake front end, swing axle rear end, low back seat, basic model.

how are the pillars and heater channels? my local friendly wrecker has 3 bug shells early 60's totalt rusted out in the mentioned areas 1 early 60's that has been cut for baja rusty, no panels however (my hubby is getting the bar work for around the engine from this one) and the wrecker even has a shortend floorpan ( manta ?)buggy that he wont part with ( going to do it up one day )

Stilgar. The heater channels are in good condition. The heater works. The A and B pillars are not rusted anywhere on them. The body is good all over. The only rust that I have found is surface rust on both the body and the doors. The running boards and their rubbers are not good. The mudguards are battered all over, but that doesn't matter if you are going to Baja it. The paint work is really bad and has lots of little rusty spots all over it. The interior is poor with torn seats and head lining.

The steering is good and the brakes work as well as can be expected. It still has the original AM only radio.

I also have a twin port 1600 engine, which I was told is in good condition when I bought the wreck for it and other things. It's been sitting on my bench for the past couple of years. The tinware is off, but the engine is complete, except for some parts that are on the Herbie. You can have that for an extra $100.

That is, Herbie and a TP 1600 engine for $600 FIRM. It's priced to sell so please don't haggle.

Chris has a pair of highback seats that may interest you.

What with Herbie, a kit and some other things you should be ready to build a Baja for about $1,000.
