[WTB - VIC] type three pop out side windows
Petey - January 24th, 2007 at 10:50 AM

hi there,
I was just wondering if it is possible to by a kit or something to convert your rear windows into those ones that pop out? I really don't know too much on the subject so any help would be much appreciated....
Thanks!

What sort of type 3 is it?
If it's a notch or a square you can buy a pop out kit from just about any of the forum sponsors. If it's a fasty, you're out of luck. Nobody makes the rubber seals for fasty pop outs anymore and virtually all the OG ones are cactus by now. You can pick up the glass and latches fairly easily, but without the seals they're useless.

It's a notchback 70 model. What should I search for?

They're called pop outs.

Just call up a few of the forum sponsors and tell them what you want.

With the notch pop outs, you have to be cafeful that the car has the cuts outs in the 'B' post as these can be a bit of agro,
Try thesamba.com there is a pair over there.
seals are available from vintage veedubs

>With the notch pop outs, you have to be cafeful that the car has the cuts outs in the 'B' post as these can be a bit of agro<

You will find that all type 3 notch vehicles had the holes cut in the "B" pillar. What is missing is the hinge tongue which can be cut from a pillar of a square as all of them had popouts up to 1971. It's a bit of a fiddle to put these in but is only an evenings work and they do have to be brazed into position hence a bit of paint work. DON'T DROP THEM INSIDE THE PILLAR!!!! You may be able to attach with screws but a bit more of a fiddle. The pillar and hinge has alignment holes.

Then you have to have attachment points for the latches as the 3 holes are there in the inner skin but nothing to screw into. The notch had metal thread screws whereas the square has self tappers. Maybe a small piece of 1mm sheet steel with M4 "Nutserts" will do the job here.

Check if "Empi" has any in Melbourne. I gave him some a while back and he may still have them.
