I've been rebuilding this buggy from the ground up for a while, to the extent that it was going to be race-able this year. However, a golden
opportunity could not be overlooked, and the garage has to be cleared to make way for the new project that arrives in a few weeks time - if I had the
space I'd be keeping it to complete the rebuild, but I don't, so...
At this stage the plan is to see whether anyone wants to take the whole thing, otherwise, I'll be stipping it, to sell of as individual parts, and
taking an angle grinder to the frame - which would be a real shame. It would be suitable for either paddock basher, or race-able, it is CAMS
registered with a valid log book.
So what have I got - a Super 1650/Class 2 offroad buggy in need of some TLC and assembly to complete. The following is what you get:
Frame/Body: Valley Frame, built by Wally Schmidt, Murray Bridge SA – sand blasted, resprayed and brought up to current CAMS specs. Fibreglass and
aluminium body (g. condition, but needs run down and paint), new front and rear firewalls; new 60-litre aluminium, baffled, fuel tank with Revolution
Race Gear aircraft filler, and fittings for braided hose., New aluminium dash board with new switches and gauges. Fibre glass seats with new seat
mounts. 4” wider offroad front beam. New front spot lights; new rear brake and dust lamps.
Engine 1: 1600cc twin-port aircooled VW; 009 dist; new GT40 coil; shaved heads with BugpPack race springs); Scat C-35 cam; Weber 40DCNF carburettor,
remote oil cooler (complete, but dismantled)
Engine 2: standard 1600 twin port (missing carb and inlet manifold - maybe a few other bits, got it from a mate and haven't got around to seeing
what's there or not))
Exhaust: 4-1 extractor exhaust, no muffler
Driveline/Transmission: Close ration 1600 VW 4-speed; super diff; Kombi CVs, new CV boots – needs drive shafts (original ones were stuffed and too
short for the replacement 2x2 arms); kombi stub-axles
Clutch: New Daggers Race Brakes hydraulic clutch pedal/master, CNC slave
Steering: Trik Offroad rack ‘n pinion (12-months old), centre load, with steering column connector (needs steering column - have the 2 UJ’s but
needs tubing to complete); New Revolution Race Gear quick-release hub and leather/aluminium steering wheel.
Suspension: Front - VW Torsion bar, split to suit widened front beam; standard length strengthened front trailing arms; strengthened carriers; 2 x
New ARB OME Gas shocks (compression); Rear – IRS Torsion bar; 2x2 H/D trailing arms; new urethane pivot box bushes; type-3 double spring plates;
Shocks – 4 x new ARB OME Gas shocks (2 x compression, 2 x rebound)
Brakes: Front- Rebuilt VW drum (ex-Formula-Vee); Rear – Discs (unknown origin), rebuilt Sigma callipers; New Daggers Race Brakes pedal/dual-master
cylinder with bias control.
Wheels/tyres: Front - 4.5x15 6-spoke steel (wide-5); Yokohama Super Steel (new); Rear - 8x15 5-spoke steel (wide 5); 31x10R15 Yokohama Super Digger
(approx 80-85% wear remaining)
What needs to be done:
All plumbing and wiring
Complete steering column
Buy/farbicate steering tie rods
Buy/fabricate drive shafts = not sure of the length, but around 550mm (will obviously need to be confirmed)
Rebuild engine - would recommend the gearbox gets serviced as well.
I'm looking for around $3K (or sensible offers) for the lot - not making any money on this, just looking to recover the cost of parts. As I said not
looking to break up yet, as I'd prefer to get rid of the lot in one go.
Can send pics of rebuild activities, and the current state of play.
Cheers .. Kimbo
