Not mine, but I've spoken to the owner. The Taipan is type 3 based, with a mid-mounted 1500cc Nissan engine.
DRB only made 6 of these, so they are one of the rarest Australian made VW based kits. The owner fitted the (IMHO) quite unattractive spoilers and
'Testarossa' styled sides.
I'm only posting this as my Sabre MK2 (basically the same body but one-piece, and rear-engined) has generated a lot of interest, and the Taipan is a
far more impressive car.
If my car was ready for sale, this would already be in my garage!
All kinds of wrong. Too many kit cars look like the poor imbred cousin, adding the wings and shit makes it worse.
Not exactly a sleeper. I'd rather spend that kinda money on a big engine in a ratter just to keep the ricers guessing.:alien
Not my thing but each to their own.

FMD that's seriously ugly. Remove the Testarossa rubbish, skirts, airdam and wanker wing and it might look half way decent.
just like that asian fellas one in beenleigh, cept without the side grills and the tail.
parked next to him at edens landing corner store a few times... haven't ahd the chance to ask him how the vw is going lol...
the sound, the smoke and fumes... it kinda gives it away lol. But overall definitely a head turner, and everyone in beenleigh knows of it, there like,
omg u seen that farrari that hangs around beenleigh.. "wat? the vw? " lol
I rekon the kits are great, seeing that the stock bug is such a feminine car
Agreed, Chris. Nothing under $200,000 turns heads like these kits.
But then, this sort of thing IS my thing.
It looks like a 70's sports racer.
But what is that behind in the garage, a D type replica?
Yep, D-type Jag race roadster replica. Also for sale on carsales. Unregisterable only because of plexi windscreen.
Theres a big difference here.
Your car is pretty.. that one is dog ugly!
PMSL, thanks jo_tas, yeah the Taipan needs a lot of ...redirection.
BUT: I can see what waits below the poorly executed body mods, and I'd still like it in my garage.
