Seller's Name – Steve (aka Bronze) Contact - 0411 444 334
Suburb / Post Code – Dubbo 2830 and/or Newcastle 2285
Item Description including Brand – 71 Baja - stock 1500 motor
Condition – Fair condition.
Item Cost - $1,500 n/neg.
Registration - AZJ21F reg until Oct 19, 2007.
As seen in AVMA Mag. (Plug Plug) Yes, the time has come where the Drop Bear and I will part ways. I have owned this Baja for the past 7 years and it
has been daily driven over that time. Camping, Stockton, National Parks, Geocaching (Google it) and VW shows at some stage this Baja has done the lot.
I'm asking $1,500 n/neg. It's n/neg cause thats what I need.
Note - This is not supposed to look pretty. It's built to push through the bush in a hurry.
NOTE: Now has a 1500 with twin cannons. Not the 1600 in this photo. 1600 died of excessive sand - broken intake tube.
The Drop Bear is a no frills, hard working 71 Baja shaped by a Cheeta Kit and pushed by a 1500 aircooled. Painted in Metallic Matt charcoal grey the
Bear is quite well known in Australia VW offroad circles.
Here are some details from memory. I'll edit and post more as i think of them. U2U me if you have any questions.
* 71 Model Povo pack (Drums all round)
* Swing axle / ball joint.
* Cheeta Baja Kit (I think)
* 1500 Engine and Transaxle in good condition.
* Tires 30% worn (30 inch rear and ~25 front)
* High power, ultra bright sealed headlights (I do lots of night driving)
The Drop Bear has never been driven in salt water in my time and always washed out after driving in the sand and mud. There is some rust in the bottom
of the drivers side C panel above the motor but nothing to prevent reregistration. Brakes, front wheel bearings, suspension and motor have all
recently been checked and/or reconditioned as required by a qualified mechanic. Entire clutch assembly was replaced a month ago.
Faults - Speedo doesn't work as it is in MPH and so I just use a GPS to stay in the zone. Normal horn works but airhorns are clogged with sand.
Transaxle boot is torn and is leaking. Plan to replace it this weekend coming. Right rear tire rubs on full compression. There are probably more but
thats all I can remember for now.
Rego is due on the 19th so if there is little interest here I will be putting it on ebay to have it sold before rego is due. Vehicle is currently at
Dubbo but can be at Newcastle in two weekends time for inspection if not sold before then. I'm happy to have NRMA inspect or drop it around to a
Dubbo Mechanic of your choice for an inspection if you like. Don't hold out for a price drop - it wont happen. Offering lowest price now for a quick
sale. I'm keeping the transaxle strap and roofrack for future cars but the rest is as is.
Reason for selling :
Clearing debts to buy a house. Behind that house will be a shed. In that shed will be a mig. With that mig I will be building a buggy (or another
baja). :duh

Sorry Mr930. You where about 2 hours too late unfortunately. Accepted an offer just before I read you thread in the DB&BA forum. Sorry mate. Would
have saved me a trip but at least the Bear and I get to go for one last long drive together.
Thanks Floss - I feel the same way. Didn't think I'd get so attached to a car but it is in every stage of my boys growing up and the word 'baha
bug' is my sone third word he learnt so it's special to me too. There will be others.
And so ends another chapter and I hope it serves the new owners just as well and bring just as many memories.
Bronze.

Just remember Steve, that when you buy another one..
You have to start all over again....
unless the history of the new one is documented...
and thats pretty rare...
Best of luck with the house...
