its one of those piece of string questions
its only worth waht the market will pay at the time
but theyre only ever worth half what u spend on them

helbus - March 31st, 2008 at 11:06 PM

Try $6000 and see what happens. If you get lookers and no buyers, some of the offers you may get may be less, and you could take that into consideration. You may wish to try $8000, it is your choice, you will pay for a few advertisements if you go too high, before you get the buyer. Maybe Ebay with a reserve. More info helps a lot. What mechanical reports can you provide on condition of engine, such as compression test on engine cylinders, roadworthy certificate, does it have rego, new tyres, stereo, receipts for paintjob, interior, does the paintjob have a warranty from the place that did it. Many questions buyers will ask.

68AutoBug - March 31st, 2008 at 11:08 PM

Most people don't get what they have spent on vehicles..

but insurance wise, I'd ask for a quote from Shannons

and NRMA classic & vintage insurance

that will give you a good idea...

My 68 beetle is insured for $5000 with NRMA classic
I could have insured with Shannons for $8000

so Yours would be worth at least that Nicole
maybe more..

How about some more photos?
engine and interior , front and side views...

cheers

Lee

68AutoBug - March 31st, 2008 at 11:09 PM

Lee

Joel - April 1st, 2008 at 04:03 PM

greedy53 - April 1st, 2008 at 04:52 PM

turbo mags

polarbus93 - April 1st, 2008 at 06:04 PM

they are called hurricane turbo built by csa in the early eighties

nicole - April 1st, 2008 at 09:59 PM

really i dont know much about vw but i just do what i like. dont know what type of mags they are but my dad picked them up for me as part of a present for me, i would really like to get spyder wheel eventually. as for the size will have a look tomorrow and try and post some pics. she is still a bit of a work in progess needs just the little touches and maybe a new engine one day. but need an approx for the insurance. think i will go through vigil insurance as we had a mustang put through them once and they seemed to be the cheapest.

68AutoBug - April 1st, 2008 at 11:23 PM

Hi Nicole,
with Shannons or NRMA Classic and vintage insurance

if your car is written off in an accident...

You get your car back...

so You can take all the good parts off it
or rebuild it....

The wheels look like 14 inch Nicole...
VW wheels are 15 inch...

so Your speedo will be out and your engine will rev higher because of the small wheels...

LEE

14 inch wheels were common years ago as they made your beetle accelerate faster ..
and your engine goes faster... Lee

Vigil is a great mob, we have about 5 cars through them and they've been the cheapest and seem to have the best service.

does having smaller wheels cause any problem as i wasnt aware of that.

and it is good to hear that other people use vigil

Hi there ... nice looking car ... just wanted to ask .... you said ...

i never ever knew that beetles came in a "auto" version ... (which just goes to show how little i know about them :)) ..... but come to think of it, i now remember seeing a few on ebay over the last year with "auto" or "semi auto" ...

sorry to divert your thread, but can anyone please tell me - are they a "full" auto like we would see in a "modern" car - or is it something different - ie like the mercedes 190A "clutchless manual" which they pass off as a sort of automatic? ... just curious :?:

again, sorry to divert the thread

regards
A|T

nicole - April 2nd, 2008 at 09:47 PM

so long as the rolling diameter of the wheel is the same there is no problems.

nicole - April 4th, 2008 at 08:35 AM

great thanks

type3kid - April 4th, 2008 at 08:49 AM

looks like you have the same brake as my old square!! love the brick.

PrettyBlueBug - April 7th, 2008 at 03:18 PM

Your bug looks nice. :)
I have mine insured with Shannons, they are awesome and were cheapest for me on agreed value plus the extras.

so far as i know, ALL 14 inch tyres will be smaller than a 165 x 15 inch tyre

so Your speedo will be incorrect..

but that isn't a major problem Nicole..

that IS Correct..
but a "normal" 14 inch tyre will NOT be the same rolling diameter..
that is why they were used...

they were smaller in Rolling Diameter or any diameter

If they were the same diameter...??
A Beetle would NOT accelerate faster with 14 inch wheels/tyres
and the speedo would not be incorrect..

Nicole

Give Shannons a ring and tell them everything about Your beetle and they will Give you a figure,
what they think Your car is worth...

this can be changed ..

cheers

Lee

Joel - April 7th, 2008 at 11:40 PM

there are a few 14" tyres u get same rolling diameter as 165r15s or bigger
my mate davids bug has 14" hot wires and 215/75 tyres on
u can see theyre actually taller than the 18" 215/35 on the front of my bug
but from the pics nicole has put up of her bug side on its got 50 series tyres on which are way to low profile for a vw poor thing at 100km/h would be revving its t*ts off

but anyway back OT its a hard question to answer
u would be better getting an assessor to value it

nicole - April 9th, 2008 at 08:12 AM

will have to give them a ring so i can drive it the poor thing has only been driven twice in the last year which could nearly be classed as a sin.
