54 Beetle for Sale 99% Rust Free 99% Complete
Calcool - July 15th, 2008 at 10:12 AM

Hi All,

Due to a change of circumstances I am having to sell my 54 Beetle.

Chassis No 1-0601968
Comes with your choice of a 12Volt 1600 Single Port and matching 1500 gearbox with short axles or
6 Volt 36Hp Motor and matching gearbox, I have driven both motors and gearboxes and they work, the 36Hp is not brilliant and the gear change is a bit clunky, the 1600 went like a train and shifted well too.

The car has some original paint on it, looks too good to be a rat, but would be OK as a driver, or the best basis for a resto.

The car is 99% rust free, it has had some rust in the bonnet (it is a 54 bonnet) up near the hinges, would need repair at some stage in the future, but is OK for now, the body is rust free and pretty straight, the W decklid has no rust but had some vents welded in at some stage earlier in its life, leave them or weld them over. It has had a rust repair under the battery tray prevously and is solid.

The rear beaver panel was replaced with a 60's version at some stage and I have sourced a straight "H" panel beaver (sandblasted and primed) that needs its tailpipe cut outs welded up as 54's did not have them and also needs welding back ot the car as you can see in the pics. A previous owner also welded the rear "T" bar brackets to the body and the body brackets will need to be replaced, the passenger one is salvagable but will need a drivers side.

The front and rear bars are good, the rear has a dent in it though and will require a pair of "T" brackets. The guards are all original with the indent pressings where they meet the guard beading. It has never had indicators put on top of the front guards either and the headlight wiring tubes are in tact.

I pulled the doors apart to lube the bottom window channel to get the windows winding a bit better and to tidy up the quarter vents, I can put this back together if you like, but if you are going to do a resto it may save you some work. The doors are perfect and have that great click clack sound when you close them.

The interior is all there with the correct seats, they would require retrimming though, but it has seat covers. It has a Batwing Steering Wheel that is in good condition, with the matching horn button. The Hoodlining has been replaced at some time with a brown vinyl one.

I have a pair of semaphores, the lenses would need replacing and they would require a little reco as well. I have the Hella blinkers on the "B" pillars, I also have a rust free set of heart tailights, one of the hearts has a crack in the lense. It has good headlights from a later 60's Beetle not original to the 54. It has a Wibroc Accessory mirror on the drivers door pin hinge that is in great condition too.

I am in North Western Sydney and with a little work you could get this car on the road in a short time.

If you are interetsed and the money is in my bank account before Nambucca I could probably ship it up for you free of charge.

The roof rack does not come with the car, it is available seperately for $250. Rack Now Sold

I want $5000 for it.

Feel free to give me a call or ask any questions here on AVD, it is a good honest genuine car!

Cheers,

David

The motor is not currently installed in the car, this pic was taken before I removed the motor and the rear beaver.

The motor does not come with the Fram Oil filter set, The Fram Oil Filter set does not come with the car either.

David

He just sold his 54 too cheap.

It was a bargain...

Oval_Mad - August 19th, 2008 at 10:32 PM

Howdy Calcool.

I noticed you mentioned in another thread that you had a 54 and 55 for sale.

I would love to grab the 54 off you, but dont have that much cash to spend. Is a shame, I love these the most.

Got any pics and info on the 55 you can send to me?

cheers

Calcool - August 20th, 2008 at 08:14 PM

Hi Oval_Mad,

I want a bit more for the 55 and it is essentially the same model as a 54 i.e. click clack doors, large petrol tank, Bat Wing Wheel etc.

I am hoping to get some pics of it soon.

Cheers,

David
