We finally have to sell our Grandmothers car. She bought this car new in 1974. She wanted to buy a Jaguar, so she went to the Jaguar dealers showroom.
She looked that the cars sitting in the showroom and picked the car she wanted. When the salesman walked up she said 'I want that one'. The salesman
looked at her, and told her 'We can't sell that to you, it is too powerful for a woman'. So she walked next door to the Triumph dealer, handed over
the cash and drove off in this car.
It has had the engine and auto rebuilt (receipts for around $6k). It had an aftermarket air conditioning unit installed under the glovebox just after
it was bought. This has had the compressor rebuilt and new hoses, drier and gas (duh!).
As you can see from the photos, it needs a fair bit of bodywork done. Some marks were done by Grandma at the shopping centre (One afternoon she backed
a little too hard out of her parking spot, whacked another car without realizing and drove home. A few hours later, two large police officers banged
on her door, after they were invited in for coffee, it became pretty obvious to all concerned that she was going to be taking taxi's from now one.)
The major damage was done by a %$#%$#$% who wacked into it when it was parked on the side of the road and drove off. The rear left door has a big dent
in it, and the bumper wrap-around bit has been pushed in.
Tyres and battery are new. Seats are in good condition, wood door trim and dash are pretty average. Except for the air conditioning, the car is
totally original.
Currently has Qld rego, but there is some rust arriving at the bottom of some of the doors. It will pass the roadworthy mechanically no problems, but
it will most likely fail on the rust. I nominate that we are selling it un-reg, but we can negotiate.
Price. Don't ask me, I am way too sentimentally attached to it. My wife will give it away. My brother poured thousands into it, but being a car - and
an English car at that - the return on investment is up there with Enron and HIH. If you are interested, lets talk. Price will be highly dependent on
desire to keep & restore and proximity to Brisbane, Sunshine Coast or Albury - so we can pop over and see it every now and then.
