Beetle for sale 65 EURO private import
ragtopp - January 4th, 2009 at 08:42 PM

For Sale VW Volkswagen Beetle. 1965 EURO model. Was privately imported to Tasmania in 65 by a local church pastor. It was handed down to his daughter in 1974. The daughter however fond of the car was not fond of the manual gearbox and prefered to drive the other cars they owned. The car was delivered to me to get it re registered and roadworthy after being off the road since 1986. Under the guards the car has the original wax coatings still on. The pan and 'A" pillars are perfect, there is no rust evident at all. Shown is the compliance plate with Made in Germany stamped.

This car has the large windows that later beetles got here but the early looks. They are still wide 5 stud pattern and run drum brakes. These bugs are very rare in Australia.

It has some very rare in Australia accessories to. It has a factory cloth rear seat, it has some tears but it is original and cloth is just not seen here. The interior colour is also not a common colour and the exterior paint is original and is Periweiss meaning pearl white, also not a colour used in Australia. The car has a miles and kilometre per hour speedo that is absolutley mint. There is a mechanicall fuel guage, not electric like ours, different sun visors and mirrors internal and external, lovely white steering wheel in perfect condition and the horn bar is different to ours to. The starter switch and steering column is different, the starter has german words surrounding the switch telling the operation of the different positions. It has a rare geniune HIRSCHMAN antenna and the little booklet on it and the factory keys to unlock the antenna to pull up, it is pictured.

Also it has a factory German fitted picnic radio, you can see the fold down flap in the interior shots, the original radio is a little cream unit and also although not pictured comes with the sale of the car. This is no AWA or local unit, but the original German one.

The mechanicals are all very good, the car cruises at 110kmph easily. It has the original engine and it runs a treat.

The headlights are the euro spec sealed beam units that are upright in the lay back style early housings, has the clear lense in front. Hoodliner is very good and the floor mats are perfect to. The hand brake cover is different from our cars and is also good. The heater controls are different and work really well.

All the glass is genuine VW Germany and is embossed to show, with the exception of the windscreen which is a geniune replacement and is logo'd still. The doors have stainless wind deflectors fitted to them which work a treat.

I have been using the car for around seven weeks to iron out any little issues and have found vertually nothing to repair or adjust. It is on full Tasmanian registation for six months. The car has just had a full roadworthy and passed without an issue.

It will be for sale on other media so the right to withdraw from sale will be mine. I will help with the delivery of the car, can drop to ferry terminal in northern Tas or even deliver to your door for costs plus small fee.

Thanks and i hope you like it.

Ha Ha it is special, this is the only one this early i know to. I know of a 66 and this onw is all. There are so many differences its mad

68AutoBug - January 5th, 2009 at 05:38 PM

Yes,
VW changed many things between 1965 and 1968
where We just got all the updated changes in 1968..

I see the 1968 wiper blades on it too...
they were only used in one year in Australia 1968..

The clear headlamp lenses are unusual...
I thought they were only used on LHD North Americian beetles...

I don't think they were used on UK Beetles...

Yiu are correct on all counts there mate.
The headlights are U.S spec, i just imagined some euro models most have had them, the clear outer lenses have Hella Germany stamped on them

it has been the law in the USA from the 1940s that every car had sealed beam headlamps....
WWII jeeps had small sealed beams....

thats the only reason VW put them into US Spec cars..
I would have thought it cheaper to use sealed beams
than the European type headlamps...??

A VW Golf owner told me He liked the Golf GTI grille and the look of the Euro headlamps so He installed them on His golf...
and... He puts the originals back on every year to get His car passed for rego...
I don't know what state of the USA He lived..??

those US made in Germany clear lenses would be rare in Australia...

What country did the car come from??
there aren't too many left in the UK and many parts of Europe..

the waxing underneath was for the icy roads with Salt on them... [which they have started this year in the state of Washington?? for the first time] all northern states use it on the roads...
so it would have to be northern hemisphere??

Thanks for all that info matey.
From what i can gather it was ordered from Germany and delivered like that to this fella in Oz. Most people dont get the rarity bit, but it really is very unique.
not sure if the gear ratio's in these early euro models differ from ours or the diff but its cruising speed on the highway is quite mad.

I can vouch for the quality of this thing! If i had the coin and space it'd be in my shed already. Bargain too.

Thanks, it is a really nice original little Beetle.

Have found a few very minor issues that need attending to, but going to sort these out over time.

Drives beautifully,
I'm quite suprised how good the little 1200 motor is, sure it's not a V8 but it is quite cruisey, I really couldn't ask for more.
