How to find Split Windscreen Kombis overseas...

As I have been unable to find a sensibly priced vehicle here in Australia, I am considering importing a split windscreen kombi from either Japan,
Indonesia or Brazil. Alternatively I had considered an early Low Light and have posted a message on this forum in this regard, however I have not
totally discounted a Split windscreen yet.
My search continues and I am posting this message in the hope to hear from people that have been on a similar journey and been successful.
I am not looking for a fully restored vehicle as I wish to have one renovated too my own specifications. Any sensible suggestions and contacts
welcome.

sounds like most of them have gone to the uk nowadays. perhaps you could bring one back from the uk?

if you dont mind LHD, compared to our prices US is still relatively cheap

WOW... If its cheaper to buy a split window from those countries they must be very expensive in Australia..
The best ones I've seen have been in VW ULTRA magazine from the UK... and the ones from KLIP KLOK??
in Holland.. although they look like they are importing them from everywhere.. USA - Australia..
all the countries that use salt & chemicals on the roads for ice - early VWs are very rare...
I would pick the US.. or maybe Brazil..
Japan & Indonesia are both small islands and I could see rust being a major problem from the salt air..
the cheapest would probably be Brazil...
but remember that type 2s were made in Brazil... so the quality wouldn't be there... but maybe they were better than the mexican made beetles...
I have seen some real bargains in the VW ultra magazine.
especially Low loghts etc..

thats an understatement Lee,
aus prices for splitties are at the moment are an absolute joke
a few of my mates have a fairly impressive collection of old project splitties that they are slowly feeding onto ebay one at a time
ones they paid well under $1k for only a few years ago they have been getting over $5k for
madness

all it comes down to is....... if someone is stupid enough to spend that much money on a car the market is there, take the xy phase 3......... 1
MILLION DOLLARS..ha what a joke but the market still pays for it,........................... so as long as people are silly enough to pay 15 20 30 or
even 40 k for a splitty the prices will stay where they are, Dont forget about 15 years ago a bunch of english boys came to australia and bought
container after container loads of old bugs and shit loads of splitties so your proberbly buying back an australian van anyways

Just saw this one on EBay. Never realised the stupid prices they fetch! The 1958 with semaphors my mate bought about 15 years ago was not even close
to a grand! He totally rebuilt that and I mean totally. It was like a brand new car. But like someone else pointed out (it was still ShXthouse to
drive) Fantastic to look at mind you but give me my 74 model anyday.
