After a couple of years owning a Type 3 for the first time, I am thinking about going back to a beetle.
Mine is quite an original car, which has spent the majority of its life around the New England Tableland. Bought originally in Newcastle, within a
few years it moved its way to NE, being owned by one and then the other brother.
It has an earlier single-carb motor in it, but apart from that it is stock standard. Has handbooks etc. Very little rust, a small piece on lower
passenger front guard and the drivers rear guard. Both are removable panels so should be an easy fix. Not rusted out in the upper rear corners as
many are. Has a poorly repaired dent in the front panel where the old guy ran into a towball of a 4WD at low speed. otherwise just small bits of
surface rust here and there. It is basically all the original paint.
It hadn't been driven regularly for a few years when I got it. I've replaced the front calipers and rotors (Ate), replaced shockies all around, new
tyres, new steering coupling, gear-shift bushes, new exhaust(single quiet-pack) and J-tubes, new battery, and an electronic ignition system to get rid
of the points. NOS rubber mat in luggage area. Interior is all original and in pretty good shape - door cards have a small tear and 'wobble' in
the board to be critical.
It is my daily driver car, and after some hiccups from a car that hadn't been driven in a while, it has been a reliable car for me. It's just not a
beetle, and I guess I can't get over the habit of a lifetime. It has an incredible amount of space in it for a relatively small car, it was really
useful during my recent house renovations for picking everything including the kitchen sink!
These photos are a bit old, there is a towbar on it now, and it still shows the original exhaust (which was rusted through).
Registered until the end of this month, although I don't want to sell it registered - couldn't be bothered. Looking at $3200 neg.
I'll take the 6 month rego price off, say $2800 neg. There are also some wheel dress trims and pop-out windows with rubber kit that can be
negotiated in to the deal.
Please PM/reply if genuinely interested or call on 0412 105 789. Located bayside Brisbane, Wynnum/Manly.
Looking at the photo, the aerial base which was installed in the vent panel for whatever reason has been removed and filled properly. A proper fender-mount aerial comes with the car. Also the passenger side mirror has been replaced with a chrome one matching the drivers.
Now on ebay, look under 'vw type 3', I'm not sure how to do the link sorry.
