State: Qld

Vehicle: 1957 VWMA Drag Rat Beetle (not registered)
Price: $13,500
**** Includes single axle trailer (Qld rego)*****

Have the time and money to race at Portland but no race car or trailer? With the VW drag racing weekends now demanding more of my time, this neat little drag Beetle doesn't get as much track time as it should, so it's time to move it on.

Package includes:

• Strong, fresh 2276cc Type 1 motor. 44 IDFs. Built by Rod Penrose. Dyno @ 140.9hp at the rear wheels. Two race meets since last re-build.
• MSD 6AL
• Transmission built by Dave Butler, Spool Diff, heavy duty sway-away axles, heavy duty side plate cover, solid mounted
• 2" Narrowed and adjustable front beam by CBB
• Front disc brakes
• Adjustable rear spring plates
• Empi wide five chrome steel wheels
• M&H slicks
• 8 point chromoly roll cage
• Fibreglass race seat
• 4 point race harness
• Custom aluminium fuel tank
• Monster tacho
• Huuuge chrome stinger

Additional info:
1.Rod Penrose is happy to talk to anyone with questions about the motor.
2.The centre fan shroud and alternator stand will not be sold with the motor, as the centre fan shroud is on loan to me.
3.If bought before VW Portland this year the car comes with VWMA sponsorship for the weekend (driver entry, camping, catering), and the car will be towed to the event, and then towed to a Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane address (sorry SA, Tas and WA hopefuls, but the trailer that comes with the deal is easy to tow).

Fun, fast car as is, or great base to improve and go quicker.

Damn shame Craig, but you're right if ya don't use it, it's a shame to see it sit idle.

TOY-930 - August 6th, 2009 at 05:39 PM

How quick on the quarter? Do you think it would it be registerable with a bit of work?

If you have seen the chromoly roll cage in this thing you would realise that is a bargain.
Good entry level drag car with plenty of room for upgrades and personl touches.

Craig Torrens - August 10th, 2009 at 09:32 AM

would you be interested to sell without the motor ?

My apologies to all the pms for the lateness of the extra pics.

• It has not done the 1/4 yet, but no reason why it shouldn't.

• The car still has most of its original trims, including all the dash chrome, and the semaphores are taped up, but in very poor condition. The original back seats will be thrown in with the sale, as well as the door and passenger cards, and Oval style fuel tank. The steering wheel is the original item. There is no headlining or floor coverings.
