Want to sell but not desperate .. yet. Offered exclusively to AVD members intially where I hope to get a feel for its value etc.

Will be advertised extensively after x mas if required to do so.

Following is the description of the vehicle in Nov 2007
when I bought it from a member of this site who had listed the car on ebay.

The price to build part is obviously open to argument but I am sure we can leave that for another time!

Well here's what I was told/shown.

""""" This 1964 Volkswagen Beetle has been built from the ground up over the last two & a half years. All receipts for work and parts are available , it is uber reliable and has no oil leaks whatsoever.
Body
The car first underwent a pan off body strip down in late 2004 after sitting in storage for a year.
All suspension and steering components were replaced with new german parts inc new German king pins and bushes and wheel bearingsand seals.
Suspension features brand new Monroe GT GAS shocks with KYB Gas-Adjusts in the rear.
An adjustable front beam was added for ride height adjustment.
The rear was lowered a spline for a 2" rear drop.
All brake parts have been serviced and replaced with German parts including a German twin circuit master cylinder this year.
The rust free floor pan was painted.
The body was minimally repaired and then faired/primed.
Each panel was intensively long boarded and faired to achieve straightness.
Once straight the acrylic (for a show shine and finish) blue with emerald pearl and white went on.
This was then wet sanded and buffed to an illustrious shine.
All new trim went on along with brand new Porsche 911 style headlights and chrome trim.
All exterior seals are new items as are the tail light lenses.
The towel rail bumpers are original and have been made up from the best of two sets.
The doors have been treated to all new seals and glass guides while the quarter window surrounds have been polished.
A new set of black EMPI 5-Spokes were fitted along with 15 x 155 and 15 x 205 tyres.
A brand new driver’s side rear view mirror was also fitted.
The running boards were re-covered with new rubber and trim.
The original front indicators have been shaved in favour of brand new clear Falcon side units mounted beneath on each side.
NOS (new old stock) wipers and Porsche blades have been fitted.
New personalised plates "DUB64" have been fitted.
Interior
The blue and white theme continues throughout the interior with fresh white vinyl door cards.
The seats both front and rear have been custom re-upholstered in Noosa Blue & white vinyl .
A new custom 60's style white furry interior headlining was installed in Jan 07.
There is a new 1960s EMPI chrome trigger short throw shifter and chrome pedal cover set.
All new door handles and window cranks have been fitted with new ivory buffers.
A blue leather Boss steering wheel has been fitted with new Wolfsburg horn button.
The firewall and centre/side floor channels have been covered in dark grey Fos for sound proofing and a clean look.
The floor has been triple covered for insulation and sound proofing.
The rear firewall has been double sound proofed using lead lined noise barrier/heat insulation foam on both sides.
NOS rear view mirror and sun visors are also present.
A NOS metal rear window Venetian sunshade has been installed.
Engine
The engine was built fresh using a 1973 AS36 case which was line bored and crack tested.
The 200mm flywheel was lightened to 12.5lbs before balancing.
The internal reciprocating parts (crank, rods, pistons and flywheel/clutch and pulley) were dynamically balanced prior to assembly.
The freshly ground crank and new Scat C35 (.451" lift x 286 degree duration) camshaft and new lifters were assembled. A new 87mm piston and cylinder kit was fitted to give 1641cc.
The 040 heads were fitted with new valves, guides and seats.
Atop the case sits a custom 38mm polished stainless steel manifold housing a custom tuned 38mm twin throat Webber.
A new 200mm clutch and pressure plate was bolted up.
In went the .009 Bosch mechanical advance distributor.
A set of heat wraped stainless steel extractors and a single pack stainless steel muffler were then fitted.
The engine has a beautiful and effortless (and slightly angry) tone when under load.
Gearbox
The original 1964 1200 gearbox has been replaced with a 1971 1500 gearbox to give a much better driving ratio for both the street and cruising along with all new German axle seals and wheel bearings and new clutch and seals .
ICE
The car has two sound systems.
The first is the centre console original Blaupunkt radio with single speaker installed and is fully operational.
The second is a Clarion DB566USB blue face CD/USB/MP3/WMA Receiver with 4 Sony XS-GF1622X coaxial 2-way speakers.
No secondary amplifier has been installed as this system will just about blow the doors off as it is.
Please Note
All new suspension, clutch, brakes and s/hand gearbox, etc have been fitted in the last four months. All photos of the vehicle are current this week.

+ NOW PUT IT ALTOGETHER """""""

As I said this came from the previous owner and gives a detailed description of the car.

Item Cost - $9000 ono

Since I have had the car I have had the bearings done and some panel work as desciribed in my thread copied above.

Three fold reason for selling.

No 1 - it is not getting used and enjoyed enough to justify having it sitting (covered and sitting on carpet) in the shed.

No 2 - we just bought a boat for the family.

No 3 - I really would like to get into a VW daily driver. This could be a very very nice daily but I just cant take it in the rain and dirt as it is too nice a car. I know I am open to criticism here but I look after my cars and I guess baby them too much.

This is a quality car.

MUST go to a very good home.

Please note some of the smaller sized pics are older but still reflect the quality of the car now.

PM preferred contact method at the moment.

Forgot to mention it is registered and did pass a RWC in Queensland just beore my purchase.

In SA a roadworthy is not required but I am sure it would easily pass any test.

Well have a gr8 Chrissy everyone.

I am thinking about putting my car on flea bay next year.

Let me know if you have any interest as I would really prefer my car to go to a VW person first and foremost.

Would negotiate price for the "right" buyer
