Hi can't help you with gettimg a Syncro but if you've got gearbox/drivetrain problems I might be able to offer a solution.

I manufacture a reverse cut crownwheel and pinion gear set to suit Subaru 4wd gearboxes. These can be installed in place of the VW syncro gearbox and keep your syncro going. 5 speed to boot.

I have an 89 Syncro Transporter which I've had since new.

It has the Deluxe package with rear locking diff, only 120 000km, and
serviced regularly by
VW mechanics. Transmission and cylinder heads have been rebuilt. NSW
registration is good to
October.

Unfortunately it is time for me to move on and I'm looking for an
appreciative owner to
take ownership of my old beastie.
