nice bug man, havnt seen it in brisbane?! looks like the car wasnt stripped but was resprayed.... hehe looks cool!
nick
No the car was a complete strip to bare metal and repaint. The only thing I didn't do was separate the body from the pan and paint under the hood or in the engine bay...... Maybe next time when I change the colour to something a little more modern
And now the rebuild.....
[Edited on 11-5-2005 by 063bug]

Oh yeah! a german look, love the german look. Excellent transformation, well done.
Looks sensational. The widened steel rims looked good, but the porsche rims take it to another level.
I have always thought that white suits the round shape of beetles perfectly. It looks very straight and clean. :thumb
Thanks "exwrx", "Ruckus" and "octa" it makes it all worthwhile..... I kinda copied the idea from Dasdubber with his resto.... though I will never be able to compete with that reso.
Sweet ride.
What rear brake package did you use? Where did you source the slotted and rilled rotors, imports? or locally?
A bit more info on the brakes would be great.
Thanks.
Mike M,
I bought the brakes from Volksconversions ( http://www.volksconversions.com )
based on the Gold Coast. $50 for the slotting and $50 for the drilling per set (Front set and rear set, $100 each). Well designed as they just bolted
on... if you read the instructions first... just a hint. I was happy with the result.... as you can see from the posting.
And a quick picture of the car when I bought it in 1990......

Great stuff mate - I think we will be lookin mighty cool cruisin in our bugs (whenever mine is finished!) together - both super clean german
lookers.....now three super sweet vws in the same suburb! (can't forget blup58's kg!).
It is a credit to you - the pictures don't do the paint justice....now all you have to do is drive it - REGULARLY!!
Here is the beast in action en route to the show on the weekend!
Ahhh....gotta love those cups hey!!
Slow down das, you landscape your house, you perfectly restore your dream car (and ours now) and you ALSO update my web site too.... thanks for the photos..... 063BUG :thumb
Very nice German Look. Engine transformation is great. Makes me want to get rid of the blue from my engine.
We should do up a German look Calendar or at least post a collage of pictures of GL cars on here.
Show us some more pics of the interior. Also what are the specs of the engine?
Brendan
looks great mate. well done.

why was the bootlid open while you were driving along? :duh
Pete Wood,
There is a stand off unit installed to try and keep the oil temperature to acceptable levels.
GL1972,
Nothing special in the engine bay (yet). A 1776, Std heads, heavy springs, balanced / blueprinted, berg deep sump, berg oil pressure relief pump
cover, berg rocker shafts, 1.25 rockers, swivel feet adjusters, lightened flywheel, bosch electronic ignition retrofitted into 009, alternator,
drilled and tapped for full flow and dual dellorto 40's (AN fittings and briaded hose where possible). :thumb
